The Ford Torino was built from 1968-76.
For 1972, the Torino was redesigned, the styling emphasized the long hood short deck look, as well as coke bottle styling more than ever before. The most radical change was a large eggcrate grille in an oval opening and separate quad headlights on the Gran Torinos (base Torinos had a full width grille). The convertible, the 4 door hardtop and the Cobra were discontinued, as the Torino line was focused more on luxury than performance.
The Torino remained the base level, available in 4 door Sedan, 2 door Hardtop Coupe and 4 door Wagon.
The luxury car was the Gran Torino, available in 4 door Sedan, 2 door hardtop Coupe and 4 door Squire Wagon (simulated woodgrain panels). The Torino Brougham was an option package on this car.
The performance model was the Gran Torino Sport in 2 door Hardtop Coupe or 2 door Fastback Coupe (Sportsroof). They got an intergrated hood scoop and body coloured racing mirrors.
The Ranchero Pickup was available in base 500, Squire (simulated woodgrain panels) and the sporty GT.
Engines; 95hp 250 cu in 6 cyl, 140hp 302, 161hp 351, 168hp 400 or 208hp 429 cu in V8s
