From concept to reality in little more than a year, Nissan and Italdesign have created a new prototype vehicle – Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign – in their first-ever collaboration to celebrate two golden anniversaries: 50 years of GT-R, in 2019, and 50 years of Italdesign, in 2018. Head of Nissan’s Global Design Alfonso Albaisa, Italdesign CEO Jörg Astalosch and Nissan Design Europe Vice President Mamoru Aoki describe the unprecedented collaboration between their designers and engineers, to create what could become the blueprint for a limited run of hand-built production vehicles. The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is based on the latest GT-R NISMO, reinterpreted with a European-style sensibility combining Japanese performance and Italian craftsmanship. While Italdesign developed, engineered and constructed the car in Turin, Italy, the distinctive, exterior and interior designs originated from Nissan’s design centers in London and San Diego.
