<p>The Ford display at the Barrett-Jackson Auction. </p> <p>Ford's Special Vehicle Team built a number of high-performance modified versions of Ford's volume models over the years. </p> <p>The 1993 Cobra is one of the best known. It closed out the production of this particular generation of the Mustang (1979-1993) with a bang. Its relatively affordable high performance was well noted by enthusiasts and collectors. </p> <p>This particular Cobra is a race-ready Cobra R, with additional performance upgrades. Its engine was good for 235 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. It was available only with red exterior and gray interior. Only 107 were built, and all were sold out before they were delivered to dealerships. </p> At the test drive area, I could drive a brand-new 2012 Mustang GT with 5.0L engine, and/or ride shotgun with a professional driver in a Boss 302 Mustang. I did drive the GT, and appreciated both its power and its cornering on the test track.
