• Ferrari 550 GTZ Barchetta
    • DK Engineering Showcase Day 2015
When Ferrari took the wraps off the 550 Maranello in 1996, it represented an important step in the company's evolution. Replacing the aging F512M (nee Testarossa), the 550 Maranello marked a shift back to front-engine V12 GTs for Ferrari – the niche market for which the company became known. But if the 550 Maranello was a pivotal product for Ferrari, the 550 Barachetta Pininfarina was even more desirable.

Characterized by its open-top format with rear cowling and leather-trimmed roll hoops, Ferrari only made 448 examples of the open-top 550 before the model line was replaced by the 575M. Another 559 drop-top Superamericas were built on the 575M's basis, but the rarest example was the solitary 575 GTZ built by Zagato for one Yoshiyuki Hayashi, an avid Ferrari collector in Japan.

For better or worse, the window of opportunity that, for a time, allowed coachbuilders like Zagato to create specials like the 575 GTZ is now closing, with Ferrari's own customization program bringing the carrozzeria tradition back to the Maranello gates – to the exclusion of others. But not before the Milanese design house gets in one last hurrah, celebrating the 90th anniversary of the first such collaboration between the two Italian houses of rolling style.
Taking five pristine examples of the aforementioned 550 Barachetta as their basis, the 550 GTZ borrows the shape from Hayashi's 575-based coupe and gives it a roadster body style. There's no word on whether any modifications have been carried out on the coupe's mechanicals, but the rolling stock appears to have carried over unchanged if that's any indication. All five examples have reportedly been spoken for at a price of £1 million ($1.6 million) apiece, which may seem like a lot for a car long since replaced, twice, but hardly too much to ask for historic artifacts of automotive Italiana. • 1978 Lincoln Continental Mk V Coupe
    • Diamond Blue. The Lincoln Motor Company was originally founded in 1917 and since 1922 has been the luxury vehicle division of the American Ford Motor Company. The fifth generation Continental was built from 1970-79, it was available as a 2 or 4 door Hardtop or a 2 door Coupe. Also available was the Mark series of Continentals, they were a 2 door Coupe that shared underpinnings and much of the roofline with the Ford Thunderbird. The Mark series was squarer and more upright than the Thunderbird. Differing from the other Continentals, the Mark Series had a Rolls Royce style waterfall grille, hideaway headlights, vinyl roof, rear C pillar opera windows and the Continental spare tyre hump in the trunk lid. The Mk III was built from 1968-71. The Mk IV, built from 1972-76, got more rounded lines, but the headlight doors were squarer. Unique to 1972, was the front bumper dipped under the grille. 1973 saw a crash rated, now straight front bumper and in 74, the rear as well The 1977-79 Mk V got fender louvres and the radiator dropped down behind the bumper. Engines; 166hp 400 cu in Cleveland or 208hp 460 cu in Lima V8s

  • 2003 Holden V2 GTS Monaro
    • Devil Solid Yellow. Built from Sept 2002-August 2004. Not only was the Monaro name reintroduced, but a 2 door coupe as well, the first 2 door Holden since the HX in 1976. Based on the VT/VX Commodore, but with 84 new body panels. The windscreen was raked back by two degrees and roofline lowered by 40mm. The whole B-pillar section was moved rearwards to match new doors that were extended by 150mm. Rear overhang was cut by 100mm and an integrated spoiler in the bootlid. The Monaro was called the V2 as it did not follow the mainstream Commodore facelifts, the only facelift, the 2004 VZ. The V2 was available with 171kw supercharged CV6 or 225kw 5.7 litre CV8 (CV6 17in alloys, CV8 18in) In 2003 the CV6 was discontinued and the limited edition CV8-R introduced (special wheels and unique colours) HSV did their version too, with more power, better suspension, body kit etc. Available was the 255kw GTO and the 300kw GTS.

  • Audi A8
The Audi A8 is a four-door, full-size, luxury sedan car manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi since 1994. Succeeding the Audi V8, the A8 has been offered with front wheel drive or permanent four-wheel drive, with multitronic or tiptronic automatic transmissions — and in short- and long-wheelbase variants. Previous generations employed the Volkswagen Group D platform with the current generation using the D4 platform. Beginning in 1997, The A8 was the first mass-market car with an aluminium chassis, marketed as the Audi Space Frame and co-developed with Alcoa.
