  • 1967 AC Cobra Mk III 427 S-C (15966188467)
    • <p>AC, an English company, started building the Ace in 1953 with the Bristol 6 cyl engine, when production of this engine ceased in 1961, they used the 2600cc Ford Zephyr engine but with alloy head and triple weber carbs, this proved unreliable so went to Carroll Shelby in America and then started using Ford V8s. . So the first AC Cobra, the Mk I, had the 260 cu in Ford V8, 75 were made and in 1963 a further 51 were built with the 289 The 1963-65 Mk II got rack and pinion steering, and the 289 V8, 528 were made To become more competitive with the Corvette, the 1965-67 Mk III got the big block 427 cu in Ford V8, a new chassis, coil suspension all round, wider fenders and wider radiator opening. 300 were made with the 427 (27 narrow fender 289s were also built) All but 31 cars were used for racing, the remaining 31 cars were detuned and fitted with wind screens for street use. This car is one of them, called S/C for semi-competition, an original example can currently sell for 1.5 million, making it one of the most valuable Cobra variants Ford and Shelby pulled out in 1967, AC kept building cars for a few more years </p> Many companys world wide have been making relicas of this popular Roadster ever since.

This car was dubbed the "Barchetta", or "little boat"# Tommy Lee, a wealthy West Coast automotive enthusiast who had owned a number of exotic European cars, ordered this Barchetta which had been shown at the Turin Auto Show in 1948# </p> This was the first Ferrari in the United States!

    • <p>Another one I had seen before, but never had the chance to snap - this time I realised it has US specs. The front left amber lens has been swapped, and since I'd never seen the other side with the actual US spec lense, I never even noticed! </p> <p>As a side note, the interior of this one looked incredibly bad, the seats have to be so uncomfortable... They seemed so small... not to mention the materials used. </p> 1996 plate from Madrid but seen in Santander (Cantabria).

    • <p>Asteroid Silver The VK Commodore was built from Feb 1984-Feb 1986. The VB being the first, then VC and VH, this 4th model, the VK was quite a major update. Models available were the base SL, Executive, Berlina, luxury Calais and the sporty SS The SS got the 177kw 4.9-litre V8, 4 speed manual, 4 wheel discs, sports suspension, Scheel seats and 15 inch alloys. The Holden Dealer Team, run by Peter Brock, built performance cars for Holden, making money for the race team and to homologate parts for racing. </p> <pre>Available was the Berlina based SS Group 3, mechanically similar to the SS, but improved suspension, 16 inch rims, a revised grille, front air dam and side and rear skirts. The hood scoop and wind splitters on the front guards were an option. Only 200 Group 3s were made and available only in Alpine White, Asteroid Silver or Formula Blue. </pre> <p>Similar was the Executive based SS Group A, it got 196kw. The SS Group A Group 3, the best of both cars, was based on Berlina and with 196kw. </p> The luxury Calais based Director was also available

The three of them were very high on my 'pray to see' list while in Spain and Portugal and I was able to see all three in the space of a 5min walk around an outer suburb of Barcelona! </p> <p>Not only that, I also got to do it with a now good friend, Alex or 'Alpus', who I managed to meet up with while he too was in Barcelona.     • <p>DeTomaso was an Italian company known for producing sports and luxury vehicles. The 1st Sports car was the 1963-66 Vallelunga with mid mounted Cortina engine. The 2nd was the Mangusta, built from 1966-1971, with help from Carroll Shelby, it had mid mounted 289 Ford V8 engine (until 1968, then 302) The 3rd, the 1971-93 Pantera with 351 Cleveland Ford V8. Unlike the Mangusta, which employed a steel backbone chassis, the Pantera was a steel monocoque design. 7260 were made. The Luxury Pantera L was introduced in 1972, it featured large black bumpers and the GTS with even more luxury in 1974. In 1975, the GT5, which had rivetted wheelarch extensions and the GT5S model which had blended arches and a distinctive wide-body look </p> The last was the 1993-04 Guara (BMW V8 til 98 then Ford V8)

    • <p>DMP270 This has been local for a number of years now, but it disappeared for a while after I last photographed it in October 2011 and I was worried it had gone for good. Luckily it appeared again in a small cul-de-sac near my house a few weeks ago and I decided to get another shot. It's a reasonably tidy car, but the wheels aren't original and it's not cherished, as it lives outside in all weathers (frost included). </p> For those who don't know, the entire NZ Viva range was renamed Magnum in 1977, for reasons I'm not entirely sure of. Up until that point Magnums had been highly equipped, fast, UK-assembled Vivas that were sold in limited numbers in NZ compared to the standard Kiwi-assembled Vivas.

    • <p>Dodge offered three different wheelbases in 1969. The full size C body Dodge was the Polara, Polara 500 and Monaco. The Dart was the a body compact, in base, Custom, GT and Swinger. The mid size B Body Dodge, Coronet and Charger. The Coronet was available in base, 440, 500, R/T and SuperBee. The Dodge Charger 2 door Hardtop, was redesigned in 1968, it lost the 1966/67 fastback styling, and got a 'coke bottle' shape with scallops in the doors and hood. The headlights still hidden, but now vacuum operated and the tail lights were round. A facelift in 1969 saw a new divided grille and longitudal tail lights. Available in 1969 were; the base Charger, The new upmarket SE package, with leather and woodgrain. The high performance R/T (Road/Track) with standard 440 cu in (427 Hemi option), heavy duty brakes and suspension. The NASCAR inspired Charger 500, (Sept 68) it had flush back window and Coronet grille for better aerodynamics.     • <p>Granada Gold. The Nova or Chevy II as it was earlier known, was a compact car running through 5 generations from 1962-79 and 1985-88. The 1st generation ran from 1962-65, the 2nd from 1966-67, it got sharper edges, a new grille and a semi fastback roofline The SS was visually distinguished by wide rocker panels and a bright aluminium deck lid cove. It had SS emblems on the grille and in the ribbed rear panel, and Super Sport script on the quarter panels. Very minor restyling for 1967, now known as the Nova SS, not Chevy II Nova SS like the previous year, the 1967 Chevrolet Nova SS got a new black-accented anodized aluminium grille. SS wheel covers were again inherited, this time from the 1965-66 Impala SS </p> The SS was available with many engine options; 194 and 250 cu in 6 cyl, 283 and 327 cu in V8s

This Grifo is the exact car that was displayed at the 1966 Earl's Court Motor Show in London, and is one of very few RHD Grifos ever built. It arrived in New Zealand in late 2009 from the UK.   • Opel Corsa (48810328736)
    • <p>IAA Frankfurt 2019 </p> At the Opel stand all eyes were set on the new Corsa. You could even argue to name it the most notable debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, because its sales will surpass those of any other newly launched model on the show. The Opel Corsa shares its platform with the new Peugeot 208, which means it comes with the same engine lineup including a full-electric version, the Corsa-e. The Corsa-e has maximum power of 100 kW/136 hp and a range of 330 km according to WLTP from its 50 kWh battery. Of course Opel hasn't forgotten traditional petrol and diesel units. The engine lineup starts with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine with 55 kW/75 hp, while turbocharged versions of the same engine produce 74 kW/100 hp or 96 kW/130 hp of power. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine delivers 75 kW/102 hp of power. Note that all engines are coming from PSA Peugeot-Citroën, unlike the newly developed engines from Opel in the refreshed Astra.

    • <p>IAA Frankfurt 2019 </p> One of the main debuts at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show was the new Land Rover Defender. Land Rover's workhorse has finally been replaced after its predecessor served for decades. The Defender was launched as Ninety and One Ten back in 1983, while the original Land Rover (series I) dates back to 1948. The new Defender switches to Land Rover's D7x platform and comes with a choice of D200 or D240 (2.0-litre) diesel engines with 430 Nm of torque and a P400 MHEV mild-hybrid 300 PS twin-scroll turbo petrol unit. A plug-in hybrid will arrive next year.

  • Porsche Taycan Turbo S (48769973948)
    • <p>IAA Frankfurt 2019 </p> Porsche had big news at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2019, revealing its first full-electric model: the Taycan. It comes in two versions, ironically called Turbo and Turbo S with maximum power outputs of 680 and 761 PS from its electric motor and a 93.4 kWh battery, while its range has been estimated at 450 and 412 km respectively according to the WLTP driving cycle.
