🚗️Thunderbird

1958 - 1960 | 2nd generation

The second generation Thunderbirds, the ‘Square Birds’ were built from 1958-60, now a larger and heavier car. The first generation was a two seater, the new ‘T bird’ accommodated four. They had a new angular profile with quad headlights, it was very low and now available as a fixed-roof pillarless hardtop or a convertible. To accommodate the higher transmission tunnel that was required in such a low car, Ford used it as a styling feature, building in a full-length center console featuring ashtrays, switches etc.
For 1960, the grille was revised again, now with an egg crate background with solid cross bars in front, behind the tail lights got an egg crate look too, just 'Thunderbird' on the door now, but sergeant stripes at the rear of the rear quarter, a sunroof was now an option.
