    • “1969 is really about an era when I grew up,” says Keith Helmetag, “and when I did things like surfing at the beach, hiking in the woods…” “This car really embodies that outdoors, ‘go for it’ spirit.” He may just be right: 1969 was a particularly great vintage for Alfa Romeo’s long-lived Duetto “Spider”. With hardly any option but to motor with the top down, the tiny car’s form drops away at each end—a stylistic trick that helps immerse both driver and passenger in the scenery around them. An artist and designer by trade, Helmetag was also drawn to this particular car’s color. “In choosing a color, most Alfa Romeos are red. But I’m an eccentric, I like something a little bit different,” he says. “The green really appeals to me because I love nature, I love being outside.” Don’t think you’ll catch this stunning Duetto tucked away in a garage somewhere: with tastefully applied upgrades, he covers more than 5,000 miles per year, often taking it to meetings and other more practical engagements.     • Your 'thumb up' or comments are so appreciated. Thank you! This is not an ordinary 914. It is the version with the 6 cilinder engine, known as the 914/6. This particular example has been fully restored and mechanically rebuilt in Germany about nine years ago. It was a bare metal restoration! The car was sold by dealer 'Winter' in Berlin in February 1971 to its first owner. It has the factory 5.5 X 14 inch Fuchs wheels. By the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry-level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range-topping sports coupe to replace the Karmann Ghia. At the time, the majority of Volkswagen's developmental work was handled by Porsche, part of a setup that dated back to Porsche's founding; Volkswagen needed to contract out one last project to Porsche to fulfill the contract, and decided to make this that project. Ferdinand Piëch, who was in charge of research and development at Porsche, was put in charge of the 914 project. Originally intending to sell the vehicle with a flat four-cylinder engine as a Volkswagen and with a flat six-cylinder engine as a Porsche, Porsche decided during development that having Volkswagen and Porsche models sharing the same body would be risky for business in the American market, and convinced Volkswagen to allow them to sell both versions as Porsches in North America. On March 1, 1968, the first 914 prototype was presented. However, development became complicated after the death of Volkswagen's chairman, Heinz Nordhoff, on April 12, 1968. His successor, Kurt Lotz, was not connected with the Porsche dynasty and the verbal agreement between Volkswagen and Porsche fell apart. In Lotz's opinion, Volkswagen had all rights to the model, and no incentive to share it with Porsche if they would not share in tooling expenses. With this decision, the price and marketing concept for the 914 had failed before series production had begun. As a result, the price of the chassis went up considerably, and the 914/6 ended up costing only a bit less than the 911T, Porsche's next lowest price car. The 914/6 sold quite poorly while the much less expensive 914/4 became Porsche's top seller during its model run, outselling the Porsche 911 by a wide margin with over 118,000 units sold worldwide. Volkswagen versions originally featured an 80 PS (59 kW; 79 bhp) fuel-injected 1.7 L flat-4 engine based on the Volkswagen air-cooled engine. Porsche's 914/6 variant featured a carbureted 110 PS (81 kW; 108 bhp) 2.0 L flat-6 engine from the 1969 911T, placed amidships in front of a version of the 1969 911's "901" gearbox configured for a mid-engine car. Karmann manufactured the rolling chassis at their plant, completing Volkswagen production in-house or delivering versions to Porsche for their final assembly. 914/6 models used lower gear ratios and high brake gearing in order to try to overcome the greater weight of the 6 cylinder engine along with higher power output. Suspension, brakes, and handling were otherwise the same. A Volkswagen-Porsche joint venture, Volkswagen of America, handled export to the U.S., where both versions were badged and sold as Porsches, except in California, where they were sold in Volkswagen dealerships. The four-cylinder cars were sold as Volkswagen-Porsches at European Volkswagen dealerships. Slow sales and rising costs prompted Porsche to discontinue the 914/6 variant in 1972 after producing 3,351 of them; its place in the lineup was filled by a variant powered by a new 100 PS (74 kW; 99 bhp) 2.0 L, fuel-injected version of Volkswagen's Type 4 engine in 1973. For 1974, the 1.7 L engine was replaced by a 85 PS (63 kW; 84 bhp) 1.8 L, and the new Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system was added to American units to help with emissions control. 914 production ended in 1976. The 2.0 L flat-4 engine continued to be used in the 912E, which provided an entry-level model until the 924 was introduced. The 914 was Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year for 1970. A 914/6 GT driven by Frenchmen Claude Ballot-Lena and Guy Chasseuil won the GTS class and finished sixth overall at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans. Brian Redman used a 914/6 to scout the course in practice runs for the 1970 Targa Florio.

    • You may have understood that when I record a new car for the first time then it's quite unusual I'll upload a second or even a third video of the same in the near future. But sometimes it happens I discover there's something special, little details or differences that I missed the first time or just because there are some sort of updates on the car. You also know I'm a "car sound addicted" and that's the field I love to discover those details. Last week during a test day at Monza Circuit I focused my attention on this Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo because its downshifts were like none I've ever recorded before on this car. Yes the ST used to have aggressive downshifts garnished by rare and occasional pops/backfires, while the one you see in this video was continuously making loud bangs. This limited production car (3 of them built to be sold with a cost of around 3.12 million euros each and a fourth one, which is my video's one, will be retained by the factory for its museum) is moved by a 6.5 L V12 engine which is able to produce 750 hp. The 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) acceleration should be lass than 3 seconds and a top speed around 355 km/h (221 mph). Luckily the sound has remained unchanged so you can enjoy the melody of the 4.7-litre V8 engine around the Italian track. As you can see the fantastic livery of the car is the same that Valentino used on the Ford Fiesta WRC during the 2011 Monza Rally Show last November. You can't hear the sound of the car because the 458 GT3 is really silent (the street legal 458 is louder).   • Dallara Stradale: Official Unveil Parade, Walkaround & Driving Scenes
    • Yesterday my friend Italiansupercarvideo and I were at the official unveil of the brand new Dallara Stradale, the first road legal car made by the Italian brand. The date of the unveil wasn't casual because yesterday was the birthday of Dallara founder, Ing. Giampaolo Dallara, a man who has always dreamed to create his own production car. 4 new Dallaras (with yellow and blue paintojobs to symbolize the colors of the brand) did a parade around the little town of Varano de' Melegari before heading to the track. The car is a lovely barchetta (which can become both a Targa or a Coupé car based on customer tastes) and it's powered by a modified EcoBoost 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine which is able to produce 400hp and 500Nm of torque on a car that weighs only 855 Kg. 0-100 acceleration should be around 3.25 seconds and top speed around 280 Km/h. It has been developed by Bentley Motorsport’s in-house team together with designers and technicians at Bentley’s motorsport technical partner, M-Sport. Based on the new 2018 Continental GT, the GT3 features the lovely redesigned body lines that are accentuated and made more aggressive thanks to the aero development. Little changes have been made to the old 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine too. Unrestricted power is in excess of 550 bhp. No, the game plan here is to take what was already one of the very finest supercars on sale and fine-tune its foibles. So there’s a little more power from the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 here. And a little more bandwidth in the suspension there. More downforce. Less weight. But none of that matters. What’s crucial is that McLaren ups the fit and finish, irons out the foibles, and turns its brilliantly useable supercar into something you’d really fancy daily driving – even though it’s got more power than a P1 (minus the electric). Watch the best rally drivers flat out on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat. Power slides, drifts, big jumps, watersplashes, handbrake turns, hairpin bends, lucky escapes, big moments or a massive crash. Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion. Rally drivers take turns to complete closed road "special stages" as quickly as possible, setting off a few minutes apart. A co-driver reads pace notes to describe the hazards ahead. The same rally car is used to travel to each stage on public roads following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Champions from Finland are Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm and Hannu Mikkola. French rally drivers have dominated 8 times with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times with Sébastien Loeb. Famous motorsport drivers have attempted WRC like Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1 and Ken Block from Rallycross. Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers. The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro. Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Citroen and Volkswagen became champions in the 2000s along with M-Sport team using the Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018 and 2021. Hyundai won in 2019 and 2020 with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC.
