  • Driving the incredibly rare NISMO 400R... the best GT-R ever? | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat
    • The NISMO 400R is one of the rarest, most valuable Skylines in existence. Just 44 examples of this R33 GT-R were built in the mid-1990s, although millions got the chance to drive one (virtually) thanks to its appearance in Gran Turismo on the Sony PlayStation. It cost three times that of a standard GT-R when it was new and now values are in the seven figures. As such, the chances to get behind the wheel of one are vanishingly small, but Henry Catchpole has been allowed to drive one properly on track. It is an extraordinary chassis with ATTESA ETS-Pro and Super HICAS making it incredibly, almost unnervingly agile but also fabulous fun once you get acclimatised. It’s a car that you have to drive hard and slide in order for it to make sense. The engine produces 400 horsepower and is 2.8-litres in size, both facts that make it unusual. It has long been asserted that the turbocharged straight six was originally developed for Le Mans, but in this film we dispel that myth.     • The newly facelifted Porsche 911 is now available as a hybrid. But wait, before you spit fire and brimstone in Porsche’s direction, this isn’t some hulking PHEV! Instead, only the 911 GTS model has been electrified and – hurrah – the starting point is an enlarged and unique-to-the-GTS 3.6-litre flat-six. Said engine ditches one turbocharger, and the remaining solo turbo now has an electric motor, which Porsche claims eliminates all lag. There’s also an e-motor integrated into the gearbox, with both motors connected to a 1.9kWh battery operating at 400V. Total system output is 533bhp and 450lb ft, and the 0-62mph time is down to a scant three seconds flat. Weight goes up by 50kg, but there are myriad benefits wrought by the new ‘T-Hybrid’ system, such as the engine sitting 110mm lower than before. Alongside the GTS, the Carrera, Cabriolet and Targa models have all been given a tickle over as part of the ‘Gen 2’ facelift for the 992 generation of 911 models.   • Porsche 992 GT3 Cup Sound in Action - 2021 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Collective Test at Monza!
    • The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 2021 car was unveiled last December in order to be campaigned in the 2021 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as well as the national Porsche Carrera Cups in Germany, France, Asia and Benelux and for the first time in North America. It's based on the 992 generation and it's the first GT3 Cup to feature a wide turbo-spec body (i.e. the classic side scoops from Turbo models). But despite this, the 992 GT3 Cup remains true to the naturally aspirated principle: in the racing version, the 4.0-litre, water-cooled flat-6 engine develops 510hp (25hp more than its predecessor) at 8,400 rpm and has a maximum torque of 470 Nm at 6,150 rpm. The engine is connected to a sequential, six-speed dog-type gearbox. Three different exhaust systems are available to choose from, depending on the racing series, the regulations and the racetrack. Luckily Mobil 1 Supercup championship (which is one of the supporting series of the FIA Formula One World Championship) uses the loudest of them all so it's always 10 times more satisfying to hear these Porsche Cups with the exhaust fully open compared to what (generally) happens with 'national' Carrera Cup series forced to use the muffled ones.   • The New Porsche 911 is a HYBRID? Driving the 992.2 GTS | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat
    • The new Porsche 911 (992.2) GTS has gone hybrid. But while that word may strike instant dismay into the hearts of many enthusiasts, this is a slightly different sort of electrically-boosted drivetrain; This is a T-Hybrid. That means the system adds less than 110lb (50kg) to the kerb weight of a GTS while providing significantly greater response, thanks to an eTurbo and an eMotor. As Henry Catchpole found out on both road and the Ascari circuit, this also means a 0-60mph time of just 2.9sec and a rather good soundtrack. Of course any extra weight can be seen as a cause for frowning and the added complication certainly won’t please home mechanics. What’s more, the switch to hybrid is rather confusing when you look at the CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures, because they are very similar to those of the non-hybrid, previous generation GTS. That’s largely down to the fact that this is a hybrid that cannot run on electric power alone. What gives? Why isn’t this a 911 that can ape a Porsche Taycan? Well, this engine is all about making sure that Lambda = 1 at all times, without any drop in performance. If you’re not entirely sure of your Greek alphabet, then you’re certainly not alone but you’ll find an explanation in the film. In this review of the new 992 GTS you’ll also find some rather clever graphics courtesy of Apple Vision Pro technology, which lets us show you the full layout of the hybrid powertrain. The completely new 3.6-litre flat-six can produce 478bhp and 420lb ft of torque on its own but in total the new T-Hybrid system has outputs of 534bhp and 450lb ft of torque, which is some 31bhp and 103lb ft more than a current 911 GT3. The price for the new Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid is £132,600 or $164,900 but if that’s a touch too steep then Porsche has also released a new version of the standard Carrera which starts at £99,800 or $120,100. Henry Catchpole drove the (still non-hybrid) Carrera on the launch in the south of Spain as well, which proved quite the contrast. We hope you enjoy this video.   • 8 Laps Versus a Pro in the NEW Maserati MC20 GT2 | Henry Catchpole - The Driver’s Seat
    • The new Maserati MC20 GT2 is very cool, very new and Henry Catchpole has driven it. What’s more, it might just spawn a road car to rival a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. For the moment it is the freshest entrant to the Fanatic GT2 race series, competing against cars such as the Lamborghini Huracan, Audi R8, Mercedes-AMG GT and KTM X-Bow as well as a Porsche 911, obviously. It is also the successor to the legendary MC12 Corse. With the same 621bhp, turbocharged Nettuno V6 as the Maserati MC20 street car, the GT2 version is definitely not lacking in performance. But it is also meant to be more approachable than a GT3 car. It should be approachable for an amateur as well as incredibly quick in the hands of a professional. To put this to the test, Henry Catchpole was given eight laps to get as close as possible to the time of Maserati’s multiple championship-winning test and development driver, Andrea Bertolini. Just to add to the pressure, the track is the Autodromo di Modena, a circuit that Catchpole has never driven before. And he had to talk to camera while driving. And it’s well known that a Croissant for breakfast makes you slower. And if you just turn to page 439 of the BIG Book of Racing Driver Excuses… Thankfully the MC20 GT2 has both adjustable ABS and traction control to lend a hand and the secondary controls were all laid out according to the teachings of a certain Michael Schumacher. The bodywork is carbon fibre but the brakes are steel. The GT2 category doesn’t prioritise aero like a GT3 car, but nonetheless it will generate over 1000kg of downforce with its splitter, wing, diffuser and flat floor. The gearbox is still paddle-operated, but the ratios are in a six speed sequential rather than a dual clutch ‘box. The dihedral doors remain from the road car and the GT2 can also be fitted with a second seat, to allow for training. Or just very fun passenger rides. And yet curiously the Honda e could also be just the car to convince a lot of people that they need to buy their first EV. It’s one of those cars where the design is so appealing, nay even loveable, that people just feel they need it in their life. It’s akin to the way that the new Mini was so desirable when it first hit the roads twenty years ago. I’m sure a lot of people who didn’t particularly want a supermini nonetheless bought one, because of a contrasting roof and big central speedometer. The Honda e tugs at the heart strings pretty much from the first moment it opens its eyes (or, if you don’t want to anthropomorphise it, the headlights turn on). It just has one of those faces. I think cute is probably the word. And if the exterior doesn’t get you then the interior very well might, because there is nothing else quite like it on the market. Unashamedly ‘70s-inspired but with a swathe of very 2020 screens running across the top of the dash, it is a wild mash-up that somehow manages to successfully span half a century. Honda says that it wanted to create a lounge-like atmosphere and as potentially trite as that sounds, I think it has succeeded. Certainly if you plug a Super Nintendo into the HDMI port and use the screens to play Mario Kart while you’re waiting to for the e to charge then you feel very at home. And talking of charging, this is where the Honda e is less convincing. You see, the WLTP range is just 136miles, or 127miles if you spec the Advanced pack that comes with larger 17inch wheels (as well as a 113kW motor as opposed to the standard car’s 100kW motor), so you’re potentially going to have to plug in rather a lot. Honda is pitching the car very much as an urban vehicle and I agree that this is still where EVs make the most sense. However, the fact that you‘d be struggling to make a reasonable length return journey, say to Heathrow airport from Southhampton, Bedford, Brighton or Cambridge (or from New York to Trenton and back or San Francisco to Santa Cruz and back), without having to stop to top-up the battery does seem to be somewhat limiting. Yes, a charge to 80 percent only takes 31min if you can find a 50kW rapid charger, but still…. It’s a particular shame given that the Honda e feels like it would be a great car to do a long journey in. As well as being intriguingly designed, the interior has plenty of space for a small car, thanks to a wheelbase that’s as long as that of a Jazz, despite the car being some 135mm shorter overall. It is also very refined and quiet inside and the MacPherson struts all round do an excellent job of keeping the ride relatively smooth. Of course these attributes can be appreciated on a city commute just as much as on the motorway and one other thing that really lends itself specifically to the cut and thrust of urban driving is the turning circle. Thanks to the Honda e being rear-wheel drive, the front wheels have the freedom to turn up to 50 degrees, giving a turning circle of 9.2m (30ft) or just 1.5m (5ft) more than a London Black cab. Dimes and sixpences spring to mind. If you stick to the standard, lower-powered version of the Honda e then you’ll still be handing over £26,660 for the privilege. Upgrade to the Advanced model and that price rises to £29,160, which means this is a car that people will be purchasing as much with their hearts as their heads. And that’s fine. In fact I think the EV movement needs unique and desirable cars like the Honda e (the Peugeot e-Legend concept would be another example, if it ever made it to production) just as much as it needs better battery density. Here is a car that potentially will attract a whole new audience in a way that something like an electric Peugeot 208 or Fiat 500 (ie a more expensive electric version of an internal combustion engined car) might not.

This is the most high performance Spider ever built by the Prancing Horse and is powered by the 488 coupé’s 3902cc turbo-charged V8 which punches out a maximum of 670 CV with the Variable Torque Management system guaranteeing smooth, progressive torque delivery in the higher gears up to a maximum of 760 Nm at 3,000 rpm. This is an astonishingly sporty car with blistering acceleration (0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 8.7) and, even more significantly, a razor-sharp throttle response time of just 0.8 seconds which essentially eliminates the turbo lag typical of this kind of engine.   • 2026 Audi RS5 Avant review
    • The new Audi RS5 Avant (B10) is following in some pretty illustrious tyre tracks, taking over from multiple generations of RS4, and Henry Catchpole has been to Morocco in North Africa to drive it. This new RS5 also represents a significant shift for Audi Sport, because it is the first RS plug-in hybrid. However, Audi has approached the technology in typically balanced fashion, ensuring electrification gives it both more practicality (in some ways) and more performance (in some ways). Increased performance comes most obviously in the guise of, yes, more power and torque. With the addition of a radial flux electric motor to the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, total outputs are up to 630bhp and 603lb ft of torque and the 0-62mph time is down to 3.6 seconds. But the most interesting performance upgrade is to the quattro system because there is now an electromechanical torque-vectoring rear differential with its own 10bhp, 30lb ft electric motor. It’s incredibly powerful, a world first in a production car and wouldn’t have been possible without the 400 volt architecture that came with being a PHEV. Engage 'Torque Rear’ on the Drive Select menu and you have an RS5 that is very happy to oversteer and even do donuts… The downside in terms of performance is of course that the RS5 Avant weighs 5225lb (2370kg), albeit split almost equally 49:51 front:rear. The downside in terms of practicality, is that carrying all the batteries around has also encroached on the luggage space in the boot to the tune of about 25 per cent compared to the old RS4 Avant or a non-hybrid A5. However, the practical plus point for the new PHEV system is that it allows for around 54miles of EV range, which, unlike a lot of hybrid performance cars, is a genuinely useful amount. The 25.9kWh battery can either be recharged at home (a full charge at 11kW takes approximately 2.5 hours) or on the go using the V6. The price for the new RS5 Avant starts at £92,120 in the UK.   • FIRST DRIVE: Aston Martin Valhalla | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat
    • The new Aston Martin Valhalla is finally here and Henry Catchpole has driven it on the incredible roads of Rioja in Northern Spain and round the track at Navarra. The Valhalla costs 2850,000 or about $1 million, which makes it either expensive for a traditional supercar (like the Ferrari 849 Testarossa or Lamborghini Revuelto) or something of a hypercar bargain when compared to the price of a Ferrari F80 or McLaren W1. So where does it sit? Well, where the driver sits is a bit special because the carbon bucket seat in the Valhalla is slung low and reclined with the pedals high and the view out framed by a windscreen reminiscent of the Valkyrie. It is very cool. The performance is pretty spectacular too, with 1064bhp and 811lb ft from the mid-mounted, 4.0-litre, Twin turbo V8 and a trio of electric motors. It might not be a match for the mighty Corvette ZR1X, but 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds is still pretty quick and the real benefit of the Aston's electric motors is felt in the corners…. With a carbon fibre tub, the latest Bilstein DTX dampers, an E-diff at the rear and the ability to torque vector across the front axle, the Valhalla is brilliant to drive on the road. The ride quality is astonishing and there is a lovely sense of feedback. Having a dual clutch gearbox - a first in an Aston Martin - also makes a huge difference. Just maybe don't plan any long, couples road trips because there isn't a boot in the Valhalla. On track, you really feel the benefits of the aero. The deployment of the rear wing that rises 255mm when you select Race mode and combines with another, unseen wing at the front is arguably what makes the Valhalla more hypercar than supercar. It has over 600kg of downforce at 149mph, but actually prevents itself from generating more than that as speed increases all the way to 217mph. Why? Because Aston wanted to keep the spring rates lower for the road, which seems to have been a compromise worth making.   • The New Corvette ZR1 is the Fastest Corvette Ever! | FIRST LOOK
    • The new 755hp Corvette ZR1 has taken me rather by surprise! The car has menacingly aggressive looks, huge amounts of power, along with 969Nm of torque, and even without the bright Sebring Orange colour scheme it would still stand out a mile away. The Corvette Z06 set the standard with 650 horsepower and 881Nm, but this adds 105hp and 88Nm to bring the numbers to a ludicrous level. Official 0-100 times are not yet available but expect the ZR1 to reach 335km/h or 210mph at Vmax. Available in various different trim levels, this is the ZTK package with full high wing, splitter and lots of carbon goodies. Perhaps one of my favourite details is the bonnet opening that leaves the engine's top cover poking out the front. Presented ahead of the Dubai Motorshow, the ZR1 made its public debut at the event where I had the opportunity to walk around it and show you the car inside and out.   • The NEW Ferrari 12Cilindri: 9500rpm, No hybrid, no turbos | Henry Catchpole - The Driver’s Seat
    • The new $435,000 Ferrari 12Cilindri has been named to celebrate the naturally aspirated V12. Because a dozen cylinders arranged in a V is both at the heart of this car and of Ferrari the company. However, the celebration seems to be as much about the simple fact of its continued existence in 2024 as it is the power it puts out. The F140HD engine makes 819bhp and 500lb ft of torque. It will also now rev to 9500rpm thanks to lighter internals such as titanium con rods. That's 600rpm and 30bhp up on the old 812 Superfast but its figures are almost identical to the special edition Competizione. In fact it has slightly less torque than both. Why has it not made a huge leap on? Well, emissions regulations are making it harder and harder for this engine to breathe and there is a general feeling that we should perhaps just be thankful that it is still being produced. After all I’m not sure anyone has ever described an 812 as needing more power… Of perhaps more concern is that legislation has also meant that the engine can’t sound quite as raucous as before. That’s not to say it doesn’t give your ears something pretty wonderful to listen to, particularly at higher revs and on more aggressive gearshifts, but there is less volume and edge to the soundtrack in general. Talking of the gearshifts, one of the bigger changes mechanically is the switch to the new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox (seen previously in the 296 GTB and others), which not only has five per cent shorter ratios in the lower gears, but also offers 30 per cent faster shift times. The styling of the 12Cilindri has been quite the talking point since it was unveiled and seeing it in the wild amongst other traffic on the roads of Luxembourg it looked even more striking. The launch cars were all painted in Giallo Montecarlo, which certainly contrasted strongly with the black sections of the bodywork such as the 365 GTB/4 (Daytona) inspired nose. Interestingly Ferrari is aligning the 12 Cilindri more with the Roma in terms of its range of cars, leaning slightly away from outright performance and more towards style. You can feel that when you drive it as well. The performance is still absolutely there, with 0-62mph arriving in 2.9sec, but the slightly quieter, more refined atmosphere in the cabin just lends a bit more of a GT feel than before. In the corners there is still the trademark sharpness in the steering, but again it feels just a smidgen less flighty than the 812 Superfast, particularly when you don’t have the manettino dialled to Race or above. In terms of its competitors, well, you can see Henry Catchpole’s review of the Lamborghini Revuelto elsewhere on the Hagerty channel and he should be driving the new Aston Martin Vanquish very soon… We hope you enjoy this film. In this video a stunning silver Ferrari 360 Barchetta exposed in the museum giving me the possibility to film it in each detail like rims, engine, interior, the logo of the "Cavallino". The Ferrari 360 Modena was produced since 1999 to replace the Ferrari F355 as "little" rear wheel drive and V8 powered coupe. Originally Ferrari produced just the coupe version but one year later the Maranello's Prancing Horse launched a cabriolet version, named Ferrari 360 Spider. Both were equipped by the same 3,6 litre V8 engine with the new titanium connecting rods system which generates 400 hp and 373 Nm of torque, enough to reach the 100 Km/h in only 4,2 seconds for a Top Speed of 305 Km/h. The car has this incredible performance thanks also to its lighteness, only 1180 Kg, and to a new 6-speed gear created first in manual only and powered then with a real 6-Speed F1 electrohydraulic trasmission. The design was entrusted entirely to the experience of PININFARINA, who has managed to make one of most beloved Ferrari of the history, with more than 16.000 pieces sold in this two versions. To celebrate its success, Ferrari realized a Limited Edition production of a powered model (only 1,274 units made) named Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, introduced at the 2003 Bologna Motor Show. This supercar derives directly from Ferrari's racing experience and is a road legal version of the elder sisters FERRARI 360 CHALLENGE, 360 GTC and 360 GT. The power grows up to 425 hp and the weight is now of only 1200 Kg, for a performance increase to 4,0 seconds in the 0-100 Km/h and a Max Speed of over 310 Km/h. First to be replaced by the Ferrari F430 in 2005, Ferrari produced a ONE-OFF limited edition as a special wedding present to Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, named Ferrari 360 Barchetta and without any kind of roof supports. No need to make special editions or black limited run cars anymore. That’s not the way for #BMWM. They’re going through a Renaissance of sorts, ignoring the controversial design choices of the new M3 and M4 (NEVER talk about the horrific BMW IX), making a good car like the M2 is just not enough, something like the M2 CS needs to come along. They’re stuck in the 90’s era of making limited run monsters despite the negativity towards such cars with the rise of EVs. Not unlike Porsche, they’re giving petrolheads what they want, it’s a wonderful show of stubbornness. Take the New M5 that we will review next. 625BHP, beyond the E63S and RS6 already. Dynamically better perhaps, it doesn’t need to be better... Yet too much is just right, as they love saying in M Town. So this new #M5CS arrives as the new undisputed flagship of M, so let’s see what changes it brings to the fore! So the normal M5 has 600 BHP, rwd mode, excellent comfort and dynamics. Great! Then the Comp, 625 BHP, lower more aggressive suspension set up, faster still. Even better. And now the new limited run CS. It is limited to one year of production. It’s more powerful, the most powerful M car in fact, at 635BHP and 750nm. 0-60 is even lower than the comp at 3.0, which i’m certain is conservative. And 0-200 is just 10.4 seconds. Though, it only seats four, with individual seats in the rear! The rest comes in the form of design and weight saving. You’ll note the new Gold Bronze colour appointment. This is used on the grille, the side badges, the boot lid and as an optional finish on the unique wheels. There are three unique finishes available too, brands hatch grey in metallic or frozen, and a new frozen deep green. The coolest bit, is the motorsport inspired yellow lights on the L shaped headlamps. This activates in either low or high beam, or when unlocking the car, otherwise remaining white. Exhaust tips have a unique look too. The bonnet is all new, made of CFRP, and has air vents with exposed carbon fibre. Carbon front splitter and mirror caps come from the M8, and the rear spoiler and diffuser are also carbon. The intake silencer and engine cover are also carbon, and we have a lot of sound insulation and other elements removed so all of this contributes to a reduction of 70kg vs the standard car! The suspension is shared with the new Competition, meaning new dampers from the M8, but retuned and honed to account for the lighter car. It also comes standard on race space Pirelli p zero corsa tyres, and with carbon ceramics too. Inside, 4 individual bucket seats. Detailed in mugello red and the Nurburgring logo on the headrest.     • The most powerful BMW production car there has ever been: the BMW M5 CS. Reduced in weight by 70 kg, it delivers ground-breaking performance figures and BMW M5 genes down to the smallest detail. A superior output of 635 hp catapults the high performance saloon from 0 to 100 km/h in an impressive 3.0 seconds. Fuel consumption weighted combined in l/100km; 11.3-11.1 (NECD); 11.3-10.9 (WLTP) CO2 emmissions weighted combined in g/km: 258-253 (NEDC); 257-248 (WLTP) The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model. The values of the vehicles are already based on the new WLTP regulation and are translated back into NEDC-equivalent values in order to ensure the comparison between the vehicles.     • The most in depth Gallardo video on youtube! This is by far my longest video as well, thanks to Lamborghini Carolinas for allowing me to make it! I give a full in depth review, start up, and tour of a limited edition 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo SE. Only 250 of these cars were produced back in 2007 and included unique features such as two tone paint accents. I list off statistics and features of the car as well. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I show the car idling and the exhaust note as well as 2 perspectives of starting it up as well as showing it in motion and driving off.
