The inspiration for the Gran Torino in Fast & Furious comes from a similar Torino built for Dan Widmann at Steve Strope's Pure Vision Design - the same shop from which emerged the Hammer Road Runner that's also featured in the film. Strope brought Widmann's Torino to a casting session and a star - well, a co-star - was born. The one significant visual change between Widmann's Torino and the replicas built for the film is that Widmann's car is blue, and the bad guy Torinos were painted green. It seems that blue was already assigned as super-dreamy Paul Walker's color in Fast & Furious, so the bad attitude character "Fenix Rise" (played by Laz Alonzo) would have to wear green. Little matter, however, as the Gran Torino looks dang good in green. To portray Fenix's FoMoCo, the picture car department acquired six '72 Torino Sportsroof models and one '73. As with the Charger, some of the stunt cars were fit with Chevy crate V8s and automatic transmissions, but at least one of the cars was originally equipped with a 429 and four-speed manual transmission. Five of the cars were either destroyed during production or ripped apart for parts. Among the Torinos destroyed was that 429 four-speed car. Sometimes evil must be done in order to portray evil.

This year TVR is celebrating its 70th anniversary and to mark that milestone it is launching a brand-new, 5L Cosworth-enhanced V8-engined sports car. Recognised the world over for its models’ distinctively sounding ‘roar’, the new TVR will be the first new model for the marque in over nine years. The new, as yet unnamed, lightweight model, will use innovative design and manufacturing techniques and features a carbon fiber construction courtesy of the Gordon Murray Design company. Gordon Murray, of course, is famous for his technically innovative, pioneering engineering of Formula One cars of the past and the first McLaren high performance road car. The V8, front-engined car will have manual transmission and rear wheel drive, and will be powered by Motul’s fully synthetic 5W20 engine oil which has been fully tested and approved by TVR. It will feature the marque’s superior styling and be hand-crafted rather than mass-produced. Motul’s complete range will be recommended to customers including gearbox oil, differential oil, brake fluid, coolants and windscreen washer. High quality, individual, cherished vehicles need high quality, proven products; Motul and TVR are the perfect fit. Arnaud Laire, Motul Managing director, commented: “Needless to say, TVR and Motul have a lot of points in common which is why the partnership was natural and obvious from the very first beginning. So let’s have some fun in the New #M8 Comp! We have history this car and I. We had some fun drag races on and off camera against my GT63S, and so I already have respect of it’s prowess from the off. That’s only grown since driving it. So over a year ago, we explored the New 8 Series via the brilliant diesel version. And during that review I shared a bit of history on the 8 that I’d I think is relevant to today too, so we will go from the original 6, take a look at the E31 M8 that never happened, then check the modern M6 cars too. The new M8 takes a different approach to the old M6 cars. Once again, the 8 is aimed further up market. BMW call it a Sports Car, not a GT, and its dimensions are thus different. It’s shorter than the m6, lower in height, and wider. All indicators of this being a different type of model Most crucially, M-Xdrive, all wheel drive which is rear biased, with a fully switchable rear wheel drive mode, by itself makes the M6 a distant memory! This links to the Hot V set up V8 twin turbo, with 625 BHP and a staggering 3.2 0-60 from this sports GT! Internally, it’s a different game too. The car has carbon core, a mix of steel, aluminium, a carbon fibre reinforced plastic. It makes it lighter than your typical super GTs, and helps with dynamics and rigidity. M also used learning from the M8 GTE car, that then influenced the final car’s configuration.For example the engine cooling in particular has been bolstered for specific track usage scenarios like extreme lateral and longitudinal acceleration. Suspension is of course M specific, with M forged links, anti rolls bars, sheer panels, increased camber on the front. It’s thus better in dynamic situations, but also better suited for luxury driving as we’ll see later. Oddly, no rear wheel steer, M wanted a more natural feel they said. But will all these changes give it enough to topple the brilliant M5 Comp? RC was supposed to replace the mighty IS-F. IS-F is my favourite Lexus of all times. In the world of downsizing and speed cameras a normally aspirated V8 under the bonnet is a real treat. I can’t recall another car, which would drift so easily. But you can have Lexus RC with a V8 as well, and as Ben Collins proved to me, Lexus RC-F is still easy-peasy to drift, even if it weighs around 1800 kg. That’s Renault Espace and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe territory. BMW M4 is about 200 kg lighter.   • 2020 Golf GTI Clubsport Mk 8 - Full walk around and first impression review
    • My new 2020 Golf GTI Clubsport full walk around and POV drive. First impressions of owning the new MK8 Golf GTI Clubsport. First impression review of the mk8 golf gti clubsport. Starting with a walk around of the 2020 golf gti clubsport the car comes with VW IQ Headlights as standard which look and perform really well. Moving down the front bumper of the 2020 clubsport differs slightly from the mk8 gti as there are no daytime running lights in the number and instead there are holes for better cooling. There is also a new front splitter on the clubsport to assist with lift, downforce and windresisitance etc. The side of the 2020 golf gti clubsport looks quite different than the standard GTI as it sits 10mm lower and had specific clubsport decals on the side. Further, the MK8 Clubsport has upgraded brakes (18mm) new control arms, new mounts, new suspension set up and a clever electric differential which all helped the 2020 golf gti clubsport lap the Nurburgring 14 seconds faster than the standard GTI. The colour of my golf gti clubsport is dolphin grey, a £700 option. The back of the 2020 clubsport looks very distinctive, thanks mainly to the huge two part spoiler which again VW claim helps with downforce, lift and handling etc. It also has two new oval exhausts finished with chrome tips, they are real and the exhaust noise sounds slightly better than the standard mk 8 golf gti, there id also a new rear diffuser. The interior of the new 2020 golf gti clubsport is very similar to that of the standard golf GTI. There are however new sport seats finished in "art velours" which i think is fake alcantara. There is a full digital infotainment system with nav, dab, apple car play, gesture control and 30 colour ambient lights as standard. The drivers cockpit comes as standard as digital however there is an option to upgrade these to include more things such as nav on the cockpit screen. The steering wheels is flat bottomed and heated as standard, manually adjustable and comes with haptic feel buttons (quite hard to get used to). Overall the interior of the new 2020 golf gti clubsport is a success (except the door cards), it is a nice place to sit and comes as standard with phenomenal amounts of spec and gadgets! Out on the road the extra power and torque that you get in the clubsport is instantly noticeable over the standard gti. The 2020 golf gti clubsport is a fast car, a very fast car. It also handles extremely well (this being the main foucus of the cars performance). After flying around the Nurburgring at ridiculous speed the car can just as easily settle into eco mode and cruise to the shops at 40mpg.

    • Nathanaël Berthon snatched his first DHL Pole Position in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup with a fabulous lap in the top-five shoot out, as just 0.041s separated the top three in qualifying at WTCR Race of Belgium. The Frenchman was the last to run in his Goodyear-equipped Comtoyou DHL Team Audi Sport Audi RS 3 LMS and put in a lap of 1m35.486s to knock Cyan Racing Lynk & Co’s Yann Ehrlacher from the top. Behind Ehrlacher, FIA Rookie Award contender Gilles Magnus impressed as he has all weekend at his home circuit of Zolder to end up third for the RACB National Team. “We had a very good pre-season and the guys did a really good job on the Audi,” said a delighted Berthon. “This lap was pretty quick, especially the last sector. I knew I had to give it everything.” Ehrlacher, while disappointed to miss out on the DHL pole, was satisfied with his effort. “After this long time with no racing I’m quite happy to be on the front row and score some qualifying points. I did a lap on the edge, there was nothing left. It would have been difficult to find more and we will fight again tomorrow.” In the 20-minute Q1 session, Thed Björk and Magnus both had spells at the head of the times, but Ehrlacher’s late effort pushed him back to the top with a lap of 1m35.827s. The top 12 progressed to Q2 and experienced WTCR aces Jean-Karl Vernay, King of WTCR Norbert Michelisz (BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Squadra Corse) and Néstor Girolami only just made the cut in P10, P11 and P12 respectively. Those who missed out included Australian newcomer Dylan O’Keefe, just outside the bubble in P13 in his Vuković Motorsport Renault Mégane, Nicky Catsburg (Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing. Team), 2018 title winner Gabriele Tarquini, FIA Rookie Award contender Jack Young and Honda-powered Tiago Monteiro. Catsburg said he was not surprised to miss out, with Michelisz the only Hyundai to progress to Q2. “We weren’t expecting to get through and from testing we knew it would be a tough weekend. It just means we need to work a bit harder.” A flurry of last-lap improvements shook up the order in the 10-minute Q2 session. As he had in the second free practice session, Magnus used his Zolder knowledge to lead the way, an impressive lap of 1m35.480s knocking Santiago Urrutia from the top. The other three to progress to the one-at-a-time Q3 shoot-out were Ehrlacher, Yvan Muller and Berthon as the fifth fastest qualifier, with Tom Coronel just missing out in sixth. The others to drop out at this stage were Attila Tassi, Björk, Vernay and Argentine ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Honda team-mates Girolami and Guerrieri. Michelisz propped up the times in P12. Geurrieri said: “It’s not the best start to the weekend, but still we are going to fight.” As the fastest qualifier, Magnus had the pick of the running order in Q3 – and chose to go first. The 21-year-old, buoyed by confidence, set an impressive benchmark time of 1m35.527s. Uruguayan Urrutia, making his WTCR debut, was next up in his Lynk & Co and put in a spectacular effort, only to lose out in the final sector to end up 0.353s slower than Magnus. Then Ehrlacher was the third to run in his Lynk & Co. What could the Frenchman do? To the delight of his Cyan Racing team, his time put him on top by just 0.010s. “Sector 2 and sector 3 were close to perfect,” said Magnus, shaking his head, “so to see Ehrlacher go fastest by such a margin is a little frustrating. But as it’s my first super pole session, I’m happy.” Muller was next and could only end up 0.552s down on his nephew who sat on the provisional DHL pole. But Berthon was the last to run – and had a special lap up his sleeve. The Frenchman managed a 1m35.486s to top the list by just 0.031s. Race 1 at WTCR Race of Belgium takes place on Sunday morning at 10h30 local time.
