  • The ZR-1 was too expensive to succeed — but too good to ignore | Jason Cammisa Revelations | Ep. 16
    • One of the design briefs for the C4 Corvette was that it had a minimal frontal cross-section, so it was less visible to radar. In other words, it helped you get away with speeding. Another target was to be the most powerful car sold in America. The 1990 - 1995 Corvette's ZR-1 option package was the most expensive in the history of Detroit, but it gave the Corvette world-beater firepower. Its LT5 V-8 was designed by Lotus and built by Mercury Marine, an all-aluminum, four-cam V-8 that was developed from the Lotus Etna concept engine, not a Small Block. It shared the traditional Small Block 4.40-inch bore spacing (after a quick redesign) and used an early form of passive Variable Valve Timing. The 32-valve V-8 breathed through 16 individual intake runners, half of which could be closed off at low loads. When opened, those runners breathed through valves that ran on a far more aggressive cam profile. This allowed the engine to be both torquey and efficient at low-rpms, but powerful at the top. The 2023 Corvette Z06 is the first DOHC V-8 in a Corvette, but the ZR-1 was the only ever installed in the front. And through the ZR-1 broke records, it wasn't the sales success that Chevrolet had hoped for — and there are many very interesting reasons why - culminating in the grudge-match development of the LS-series Small Block.     • One thing that made the first few Need for Speed games great is how unique every track was, since they were set in completely different environments and not in a shared open world. Here you can see laps on all 8 tracks in Need for Speed 2 SE, which was released in 1997. I also used a different car on every track, always from the car class that is used for the respective track in tournament mode. Timeline: 0:08 Proving Grounds (Norway) with McLaren F1 (Class A) 1:27 Outback (Australia) with Ford GT90 (Class A) 3:21 Last Resort (Mexico) with Jaguar XJ220 (Class B) 5:31 North Country (Northern Europe) with Italdesign Calà (Class C) 8:08 Pacific Spirit (Canada) with Lotus GT1 (Class A) 10:30 Mediterraneo (Greece) with Italdesign Nazca C2 (Class B) 12:34 Mystic Peaks (Nepal) with Lotus Esprit V8 (Class C) 15:38 Monolithic Studios (United States) with Ferrari F50 (Class A) As usual I spent a lot of time recording to be able to show you fast and clean runs. On some of the tracks I practiced for more than an hour. Just like in NFS 1 the physics in NFS 2 also haven't aged perfectly though, so a couple of walls were still touched. Starting with NFS 3 things should become very smooth though. I didn't plan to include any bloopers or funny moments here but one happened to occur right after the end of a great lap, so I decided to leave it in. :P NFS 2 also has interactive music for each track, which changes depending on the part of the track that you are in. The game includes 4 more regular cars with the Ford Indigo, Isdera 112i (Class B), Ferrari 355 F1 and Mustang Mach III (Class C). There are also 3 fictional bonus cars with the Bomber BFS, Tombstone and FZR 2000. Monolithic Studios is a bonus track that is unlocked after winning a knockout competition. I might make similar videos for NFS 3 and 4 as well, since they got very awesome and unique circuit tracks too. Opel Combo-E Innenraum Im Passagierabteil fallen vor allem die vielen praktischen Ablagen auf. Große Fächer in den Türen und auf beiden Seiten im Armaturenträger, in der Mittelkonsole und in der Galerie oberhalb der Frontscheibe bieten jede Menge Stauraum. Ist das optional erhältliche Panoramadach verbaut, gibt es eine mittig verlaufender Dachgalerie mit LED-Beleuchtung. Auch hier lassen sich weitere Utensilien unterbringen. In der Basisversion blickt der Fahrer auf die Instrumente in einem 3,5-Zoll-Infodisplay. Ab der Ausstattungsversion Elegance ist serienmäßig ein volldigitales Zehn-Zoll-Display vorhanden. Die Sitze sind straff gepolstert und lassen sich manuell so einstellen, dass eine ergonomisch günstige Position möglich ist. Opel Combo-E Kofferraum Die Lehnen der Rückbank sind im Verhältnis 60:40 umklappbar. Damit steigt das Ladevolumen von 597 bis auf maximal 2.126 Liter, in der XL-Variante von 850 auf bis zu 2.693 Liter. Nicht verleugnen kann der Combo allerdings seine Nutzfahrzeug-Wurzeln. Das macht sich vor allem beim großflächig verwendeten Hartplastik bemerkbar. Das wirkt jedoch einigermaßen wertig und dürfte zudem vermutlich recht pflegeleicht sein. Opel Combo-E Anhängelast Ebenfalls als Option ist eine Anhängerkupplung im Angebot. Gezogen werden können 750 Kilogramm. Die Nutzlast des Combo beträgt 800 Kilogramm. Opel Combo-E Leistung Opel greift beim Antrieb auf das aus Corsa-e und Mokka-e bekannte System zurück. Die auch in anderen Fahrzeugen der Stellatinsgruppe eingesetzte PSA-Plattform beinhaltet eine Batterie mit einer Kapazität von 50 kWh und einem 100 kW (136 PS) starken E-Motor. Im Normalmodus wird die Leistung auf 80, im Eco auf 60 kW reduziert (109/82 PS). Das maximale Drehmoment liegt bei 260 Newtonmetern – und, wie immer bei E-Fahrzeugen - bereits vom Start weg an. 11,7 Sekunden dauert es laut Opel, bis der Standardsprint aus dem Stand auf Tempo 100 absolviert ist. Bei 135 Kilometern pro Stunde wird elektronisch abgeregelt. Opel Combo-E Verbrauch 20 kW beträgt der Verbrauch nach der WLTP-Norm. Das ermöglicht nach Angaben der Marke mit dem Blitz eine Reichweite von bis zu 280 Kilometern. Auf der ersten, etwa einstündigen Fahrt über Autobahn, Landstraße und durch die Stadt zeigte der Bordcomputer einen Verbrauch von 23,1 kWh an. Aufgrund des recht langen und flott mit um die Tempo 120 gefahrenen Autobahnanteils ein Wert, der durchaus akzeptabel ist. Beim gleichmäßigen Dahinrollen mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 100 Kilometern pro Stunde auf der Landstraße haben wir 20,9 kWh abgelesen. Opel Combo-E Reichweite Das bedeutet, dass die Energie einer Akkuladung auf alle Fälle für um die 200 Kilometer reicht. Opel Combo-E Ladeleistung Unter guten Bedingungen kann der Combo-e wie auch die anderen auf der PSA-Plattform gebauten Modelle mit bis zu 100 kW laden. Bei einem typischen Ladestopp von zehn bis 80 Prozent Kapazität verspricht Opel eine Ladezeit von etwa 30 Minuten an einer entsprechenden Schnellladesäule. Da im Combo-e ein elf kW Lader verbaut ist, kann an der Wallbox zu Hause oder an öffentlichen Stationen der Akku laut Opel in etwas mehr als fünf Stunden wieder komplett mit Energie versorgt werden. Das regenerative Bremssystem trägt zudem zu einer weiteren Effizienzsteigerung bei. Gut gelöst ist dabei das Umschalten auf eine stärkere Rekuperation. Denn in der Mittelkonsole lässt sich mit einem Knopfdruck die entsprechende Stufe B ein- oder ausschalten. Opel Combo-E Fahrbericht Solide – das ist unserer Meinung nach wohl der treffendste Ausdruck für den Combo-e in der Life-Version. Antritt und Durchzug sind e-Auto typisch über jede Kritik erhaben. Die Abstimmung des Fahrwerks ist eindeutig auf Komfort ausgelegt. Bei einem Auto für die Familien ebenso absolut passend wie bei einem leichten Nutzfahrzeug. Und so rollt der Combo-e souverän über schlechte Wegstrecken. Problemlos geht es auch über die kurvenreiche Landstraße. Allzu sportlich sollten enge Richtungswechsel allerdings nicht genommen werden. Hierfür müsste die Lenkung ein wenig exakter reagieren und eine etwas direktere Rückmeldung von der Fahrbahn wäre zu erwarten. Opel Combo-E Preis Der Opel Combo-e Life als Fünfsitzer steht in der Basisversion mit 38.100 Euro in der Preisliste. Die lange Version ist lediglich in der höchsten Ausstattungsvariante Elegance zum Preis von dann 42.400 Euro verfügbar. Die Förderprämie für E-Autos in Höhe von 9.570 Euro kann davon jeweils noch abgezogen werden. Das gilt auch für den Opel Combo-e Cargo, der ab 29.700 Euro und mit langem Radstand ab 32.325 Euro angeboten wird. Während der Cargo noch Ende dieses Jahres zu den Händlern rollt, ist der Life für Anfang 2022 angekündigt. #Opel #OpelComboE #Elektroauto

    • Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 is a plug-in hybrid crossover with AWD. The car is built in cooperation with PSA, so underneath it shares components with the Peugeot 3008, Citroen C5 and DS7. In 2017 the French car giant PSA ,which owns Citroen, DS and Peugeot, acquired Opel (Vauxhall) from GM. This made PSA the second largest car conglomerate in Europe after the Volkswagen Group. Since about then new Opel models were launched on the PSA platforms. Built on the PSA EMP2 the Opel/Vauxhall Grandland X debuted at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, and it is currently Opel’s largest SUV or rather a crossover. It replaced the Antara, which was also known as the Chevrolet Captiva. The Opel Grandland X debuted with a PSA 1.2 litre 130hp petrol 3-banger, and a 1.6 120 hp diesel. Since then 1.6 diesel has been replaced with a 1.5 130 hp diesel, and there is also now a more powerful, 2-litre diesel. All the engines are known from PSA. Regardless of the engine variant the Opel Grandland X, like the 3008 and C5 Aircross, was a FWD car.   • 2022 Mercedes Benz EQA 300 – Visual Review + POV Test Drive
    • Overview of the 2022 Mercedes Benz EQA 300 The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQA 300 is a new all-electric crossover SUV that's based on the regular subcompact GLA-class. As part of Mercedes’s EQ sub-brand, which produces fully electric models, the EQA 300 is expected to enter production later this year. Mercedes has only released information on the global model so far but says it is still being considered for entry into the U.S. market. Given the American appetite for luxury SUVs, we think bringing the 2022 EQA here would be a good move. Power comes from an all-electric powertrain that generates 188 horsepower on front-drive models and 268 horses on all-wheel-drive versions, which both source their juice from a battery pack mounted under the floor of the vehicle. EV Motor, Power, and Performance Under the hood, the standard EQA250 is powered by a single electric motor that generates 188 horsepower and exclusively feeds the front wheels. We're told there will eventually be a range-optimized EQA as well as an all-wheel-drive configuration with 268 horses. The European version of the front-drive, 188-hp EQA250 that we drove was slowed by its hefty curb weight. While it felt responsive at city speeds, it was considerably more sluggish above 60 mph. Mercedes estimates it'll accelerate from zero to 62 mph in an unimpressive 8.9 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 99 mph. The more powerful EQA should help offset its mass, but we can't say whether it'll change its ride and handling. As it stands, we were unimpressed with Mercedes's listless body control, intrusive stability-control system, and numb brake-pedal feel. Range, Charging, and Battery Life The EQA will use a 66.5-kWh battery pack to deliver between 200- and 250-miles of driving range. That range figure is important because it means that it can compete with similarly priced rivals such as the Tesla Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV.
