The console was the first of the PlayStation lineup of home video game consoles. It primarily competed with the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn as part of the fifth generation of video game consoles. In 2000, a redesigned, slim version called the PSone was released, replacing the original grey console and named appropriately to avoid confusion with its successor, the PlayStation 2. In 1999, Sony announced the successor to the PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, which is backwards compatible with the PlayStation's DualShock controller and games, and launched the console in 2000. The last PSone units were sold in winter 2004 before it was officially discontinued in March 2005, for a total of 102 million units shipped since its launch 10 years earlier. Games for the PlayStation continued to sell until Sony ceased production of PlayStation games on 23 March 2006 – over 11 years after it had been released, and less than a year before the debut of the PlayStation 3. This is a video of my time with the Audi A1 quattro worth £47,000 today which was kindly loaned to me by Audi UK (even though I couldn't get a £14k Up! GTI out of VW UK!) 333 were made, all left hand drive and just 19 came to the UK so it's a very special car. It was announced around 2 years before the S1 was launched and while similar, this is very much a 'skunkworks' car with lots of unique features. When the S1 came out I thought owners would be annoyed but in reality it just drew more attention to the A1 quattro's special qualities. The Aston Martin Virage is an automobile produced by British manufacturer Aston Martin as a replacement for its V8 models. Introduced at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1988, it was joined by the high-performance Vantage in 1993, and the name of the standard car was changed to V8 Coupe in 1996. This V8-powered car was intended as the company's top model, with the 6-cylinder 1994 DB7 positioned below it. Although the DB7 was switched to a V12 engine and claimed a performance advantage, this V8 model remained the exclusive, expensive, and hand-built flagship of the Aston Martin range. It was replaced in 2000 with the Vanquish. By the end of the 2000 model year, 1,050 of all Virage related models had been produced. The V8 Vantage name reappeared on a new entry-level model in 2005. A new generation Virage was introduced at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, to fit into the middle of Aston Martin's current lineup. When compared to the preceding V8, the design was fresh and more modern. It looked more like a Lagonda than the V8 it replaced. Indeed, the chassis was an evolution of the Lagonda's, with a de Dion tube rear suspension, located by triangulated radius rods and a Watts linkage, and a double wishbone unit at the front. To cut costs, many of the less-important pieces came from other companies, as had been the case for many an Aston past. The sleek headlights and taillights were Audi 200 and Volkswagen Scirocco units, respectively, while General Motors, Jaguar, and Ford provided the steering column, climate control panel, and dash switches. In fact, Ford had purchased Aston Martin and Jaguar shortly before the Virage debuted. The Virage was a large, heavy car in spite of its all-aluminium body, but the 32-valve 5.3 L (5,340 cc) V8 engine's 494 N⋅m (364 lb⋅ft) torque elevated its performance to near super car levels. "Acceleration just never seems to run out", claimed Sports Car International on a first test. They also praised the "eager and quicker revving" nature of the 335 PS (246 kW; 330 hp) engine with its Callaway-designed heads and Weber-Marelli fuel injection. "Nothing sounds quite like an Aston V8," they concluded. The 1,790 kg (3,946 lb) car could reach 158 mph (254 km/h). The automatic could reach 60 mph (97 km/h) from standing in about 6.5 seconds. An upgrade to 354 PS (260 kW; 349 hp) was announced at the 1996 Geneva Show. The five-speed ZF manual was fitted to about forty percent of Virages. The more popular automatic option was Chrysler's three-speed Torqueflite transmission. For 1993 the three-speed was replaced by a four-speed automatic unit. The six-speed manual from the Vantage also became optional late in the Virage's production run. A less extreme V8 Coupe was also built from 1996, replacing the defunct Virage. Lacking the superchargers and the more aggressive body style of its big brother Vantage, the V8 Coupe produced 349 hp (260 kW) and 369 lb·ft (500 N·m). In total, 101 examples of the V8 version were built from 1996 through 2000.

The Ferrari 348 (Type F119) is a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive V8-powered 2-seat sports car by Ferrari S.p.A., replacing the 328 in 1989 and continuing until 1995. The 348, badged 348 tb for the coupé (Trasversale Berlinetta) and 348 ts (Spider) for the targa versions, features a normally aspirated 3.4-litre version of the quad-cam, four-valve-per-cylinder V8 engine. As with its predecessors, the model number was derived from this configuration, with the first two digits being the displacement and the third being the number of cylinders. The engine, which produced 300 hp (224 kW), was mounted longitudinally and coupled to a transverse manual gearbox, like the Mondial t with which the 348 shared many components. This was a significant change for Ferrari, with most previous small Ferraris using a transverse engine with longitudinal transmission. The "T" in the model name 348 tb and ts refers to the transverse position of the gearbox. Overall, 2,895 examples of the 348 tb and 4,230 of the 348 ts were produced. The 348's styling differed from previous models with straked side air intakes and rectangular taillights resembling the Testarossa. The F355 that replaced it returned to the styling cues of the 328 with round tail lights and rounded side air scoops. Fifty-seven "Challenge" models were built for owners who wanted a more "track-ready" car. The 348 was fitted with dual-computer engine management using twin Bosch Motronic ECUs, double-redundant anti-lock brakes, and self-diagnosing air conditioning and heating systems. Late versions (1993 and beyond) have Japanese-made starter motors and Nippondenso power generators to improve reliability, as well as the battery located within the front left fender for better weight distribution. U.S. spec 348's have OBD-I engine management systems, though European variants do not come with the self-test push button installed, which is needed to activate this troubleshooting feature. Similar to the Testarossa but departing from the BB 512 and 308/328, the oil and coolant radiators were relocated from the nose to the sides, widening the waist of the car substantially, but making the cabin much easier to cool since hoses routing warm water no longer ran underneath the cabin as in the older front-radiator cars. This also had the side effect of making the doors very wide. The 348 was equipped with a dry-sump oil system to prevent oil starvation at high speeds and during hard cornering. The oil level can only be accurately checked on the dipstick when the motor is running due to this setup. The 348 was fitted with adjustable ride-height suspension and a removable rear sub-frame to speed up the removal of the engine for maintenance. This vehicle also served as a test mule for the Ferrari Enzo. Three of these were made.

    • Porsche has designed a new customer racer for GT3 series worldwide for 2019 based on the 911 GT3 RS production sports car: the 911 GT3 R. During the development of the up to 404 kW (550 hp)* racing nine-eleven, special attention was paid to particularly efficient aerodynamics, further optimised safety as well as lowering the cost of servicing and spare parts. The lightweight body design of the 911 GT3 RS production sports car featuring intelligent aluminium-steel composite construction has proven to be the ideal basis for the near-production race car. The roof, front hood and fairing, wheel arches, doors, side and tail sections as well as the rear lid and interior trim are made of particularly light carbon-fibre composite material (CFRP). All windows consist of polycarbonate. Powering the new 911 GT3 R is a cutting-edge four-litre flat-six unit which is largely identical to the high-performance production engine of the road-legal 911 GT3 RS. Direct fuel injection, which operates at pressures up to 200 bar, as well as variable valve timing adjustments of the intake and exhaust camshafts ensure a particularly efficient use of fuel. Moreover, compared to its predecessor, the normally-aspirated engine offers significantly better driveability and a broader usable rev range. The engine response is more precise due to six throttle butterflies. Power from the rear engine is transferred to the 310-mm-wide rear wheels via a Porsche sequential six-speed constant-mesh gearbox with an electronic shift actuator for particularly fast and precise gear changes. As in the GT road-going models, the driver changes gears via shift paddles conveniently positioned on the steering wheel. The clutch is electro-hydraulically controlled, which eliminates the need for the clutch pedal and assists quick race starts. Typical of the 911, the weight distribution ensures excellent traction and braking performances. The spectacular aerodynamics of the 911 GT3 R also follows the example of the road car. The distinctive wheel arch air vents on the front fairings increase downforce at the front axle. Measuring 1,900 millimetres in width by 400 millimetres in depth, the rear wing lends aerodynamic balance. The tyre circumference at the front axle has grown from 650 to 680 millimetres. In tandem with the new Porsche double wishbone suspension, this ensures superior braking performances and consistency over the duration of the race. The brake system of the 911 GT3 R also underwent further modifications and now offers increased stiffness and more precise control of the ABS. At the front axle, six-piston aluminium monobloc racing brake callipers combined with ventilated and grooved steel brake discs with a diameter of 390 millimetres ensure outstanding braking performances. Fitted at the rear axle are four-piston callipers and discs measuring 370 millimetres. Another development focus was on the safety features of the 911 GT3 R. In order to improve pit stop performance, the 120-litre FT3 safety fuel cell can now be refilled from the left or the right depending on the circuit layout. The doors and the side windows can be removed. The new racing bucket seat affords pilots even better protection in the event of a collision. The seats are now bolted at six points. In combination with the adjustable pedal box, the driver’s centre of gravity is optimised and offers increased safety in the event of an impact. In addition, the driver is protected thanks to a side impact element positioned in the driver’s door, which consists of a carbon-fibre Kevlar aluminium construction with energy-absorbing plastic foam. The cockpit has been redesigned. All controls have been perfectly aligned to suit the needs of the driver. For the first time the 911 GT3 R features air-conditioning. This ensures ideal interior cooling and, thanks to the direct connection to the seat and driver’s helmet, enables particularly efficient cooling of the driver, which in turn helps them maintain concentration and a constant performance over the race.     • Porsche has graced us with two incredible RS cars in 2022, and we’re here to find out which is best. The new GT3 RS isn’t just inspired by motorsport, it’s a full-blown race car. The engine is a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six revving to 9,000rpm and producing 518bhp. It’s got 860kg of downforce at 177mph and 406kg at 124mph, well over double those of the 991.2 GT3 RS it succeeds.     • Porsche has unveiled the latest generation of the world’s top-selling racing car: the new 911 GT3 Cup. From the start of the 2021 season, this racer will be campaigned in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as well as the national Porsche Carrera Cups in Germany, France, Asia and Benelux and for the first time in North America. The spectacularly styled Cup car is the first racing version based on the current 992 generation and the first makes-cup racer of the sports car manufacturer to feature a wide turbo-spec body. Producing around 375 kW (510 hp), it exceeds the output of its immediate predecessor by 25 horsepower. Moreover, the new GT3 Cup can run on synthetic fuels, which significantly lowers CO2 emissions under racing conditions. Press it and all of the i30 N’s variable parameters are put into their most aggressive setting for 20 seconds. When Porsche moved its 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster to four-cylinder turbocharged engines, a good old-fashioned flat six engine was reserved for the limited edition Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. Well, not any more. This is the 2020 718 Cayman GTS and 718 Boxster GTS, and they are fitted with a naturally-aspirated, 4.0-litre flat six engine that recently appeared in the Cayman GT4. With 394bhp (400hp), the pair make 20hp less than a Cayman GT4. But both still have a 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds and have a top speed of 182mph. A race-winner from his early teens, Bruce McLaren soon moved through the tiers into Formula Two, before travelling to the UK in 1958 as part of New Zealand’s ‘Driver to Europe’ scheme to expose young talent to championship-winning teams. McLaren’s racing career saw him notch up no fewer than 27 podiums and four outright wins in the Formula One World Championship. Not only that, but in 1966 he and co-driver Chris Amon won the 24 Hours of Le Mans driving a Ford GT40 Mk II. McLaren would also go on to dominate Can-Am racing at the end of that decade. In the late 1960s, in between storming to victory in the Can-Am Challenge Cup, Bruce was developing a prototype for the first McLaren-branded road car. A logical step in the program of creating a competitor for Le Mans; it was envisaged as a homologation car for FIA Group 4 racing. The car would feature a 370bhp 5.7-litre V8, while its lightweight aluminium monocoque construction meant it tipped the scale as just 725kg. Ultimately, the project would be disrupted by McLaren’s untimely death in 1970, and another McLaren road car would not be conceived until the late 1980s. The now-legendary McLaren F1 was revealed to the world in Monaco in May 1992, just a few days before Ayrton Senna would take victory in that year’s Monaco Grand Prix behind the wheel of the McLaren MP4/7A. Using an innovative carbon composite chassis and bodywork, the F1 was remarkably light, incredibly well-packaged, and boasted a 6.1-litre naturally aspirated V12 producing 627hp. The combination of its power, low weight and stability, enabled the F1 to achieve a top speed of 240.1mph at the famous Ehra-Lessien proving ground in Germany in 1998, setting a new record as the world’s fastest production car. The F1 is retroactively considered the first car in McLaren’s ‘Ultimate Series’, with the second being the P1 that was revealed in 2012. The P1 featured an incredible hybrid powertrain, with a maximum of 903bhp and 664lb-ft of torque via a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 combined with an electric motor. Just 375 customer road cars were built, as well as a limited number of track-only GTRs and a handful of P1 LMs. While not a direct successor to either the F1 or the P1, the McLaren Senna is the third car in the series. Even the standard road car was conceived and developed to deliver remarkable lap times on track, with its bodywork featuring aggressive aero-optimised elements, and with power coming from a mighty twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8. Just under a year following the launch of the road-going model, McLaren unveiled the Senna GTR. Sitting 34mm lower to the ground, it was also equipped with a dramatic front splitter, vast rear wing, revised diffuser, and front ‘canards’. It tipped the scales at just 1188kg dry, boasted an additional 200kg of downforce at 155mph, and its suspension was swapped to the lightweight racing setup from the 720S GT3 race car. At the heart of the Senna GTR, the hugely powerful twin-turbocharged V8 was revised to produce up to 825hp and 800Nm of torque, driven through the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch race transmission with paddle shifters. Significantly, the name of the car of course pays homage to the Brazilian three-time F1 World Champion, Ayrton Senna, who notched up a remarkable 35 Grand Prix race wins during his time with McLaren, and helped the team to secure four Constructors’ Championship titles. --- Looking to sell your collectible car and put it in front of a wide-reaching global audience?
