    • The CCXR Special Edition was the final limited edition of the CCXR range. It took the CCXR to the highest level possible. Not only does the CCXR Special Edition boast the finest visible carbon work in the industry, it was also equipped with the double F1 wing, a revised aero package with a unique and larger front splitter and side winglets, wheel vents on top of the body, as well as a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and a g-force meter. The CCXR Special Edition saw the debut of Koenigsegg’s first F1 Paddleshift system and as the car is based on the CCXR concept, it also has flexfuel capability. The CCXR Special Edition was indeed very limited, being made in a series of just two cars. It is truly a work of art with classic Koenigsegg features.   • The BMW M1: a Race Car That Couldn't Go Racing — Jason Cammisa Revelations Ep. 29
    • The E26-chassis BMW M1 — the first car ever from a new subsidiary of BMW, creatively called "BMW Motorsport" — is one of few cars ever produced that started out as a race car and then was developed into a road car solely for homologation purposes. Cars developed this way are in ultra-exclusive rarified air, but the M1's development was so fraught with problems that it was never allowed to go racing. However, the car's fundamentals were spectacular, from its beautiful Giugiaro design to its powerful BMW M88 straight-six, to its Lamborghini-Dallara racing chassis. It received nearly universal acclaim — as quick as the 12-cylinder Ferrari 512 BB and the Lamborghini Countach, but civilized and docile to drive. The difficulties in getting production ramped up were mostly the fault of Lamborghini, which went bankrupt during the development after misappropriating funds received both from BMW for the M1 and from the U.S. government to develop an off-road military vehicle, and then being sued for copying another company's work. BMW was able to break into the factory overnight and retrieve its parts and tooling, and moved production elsewhere. But the car was never produced in enough numbers to participate in FIA Group 4 and FIA Group 5 racing — the classes for which it was conceived. As a race car first and foremost, it is the purest expression of any car created by BMW Motorsport GmbH — and its impact has trickled down into every car M puts its badge on today. Which is, to say, the majority of cars that BMW produces.   • DRIVEN: The Porsche 963 RSP street-legal Le Mans hypercar | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat
    • The extraordinary Porsche 963 RSP is a one-off road car tribute to the road-registered Porsche 917 that was created 50 years ago. While that 917 (chassis 30) was owned by Count Rossi of Martini Rossi fame, the ‘RSP’ in the new car’s name refers to Roger Searle Penske. The motorsport legend has spearheaded Porsche’s endurance racing effort in recent years and his team has been integral to the creation of this road version of the 963. Henry Catchpole went to Le Mans (very briefly) to have a look at both cars and then drive the new 963. Weighing not much more than 1000kg or 2200lb and with largely the same 671bhp hybrid powertrain as the race car, the 963 RSP is incredibly rapid in a straight line, but perhaps more unexpectedly, the steering also feels fabulous and instantly encourages you to push harder. As a result, it’s not quite as intimidating as you might imagine and dreams of a road trip start to form. The combustion engine is a 4.6-litre, twin turbo V8 that can trace its roots back to the unit in the RS Spyder race car. However, in naturally aspirated form the same V8 can also be found in the 918 Spyder road car. In the 963 RSP it has been remapped for a slightly smoother delivery on the road and it has also been adjusted to accept regular pump fuel. Painted (not wrapped like every other 963) in Martini Silver, the 963 RSP looks perfect next to the identically coloured 917. Both cars also have a light tan interior with a mixture of leather and Alcantara in the RSP. The 917’s leather purportedly came from Hermès in 1975. Other details linking the two cars include 1970s-style Michelin decals on the 963’s tyres and interior vents shaped like the fan on top of the 917’s flat-12 engine. Of course, if you’re more interested in aeroplanes then you might just want to watch the film for the Diamond DA62 that makes an appearance.     • The Ferrari 360 is a two-seater sports car built by Ferrari from 1999 to 2005. It succeeded the Ferrari F355 and was replaced by the Ferrari F430. It is a mid-engined, rear wheel drive V8-powered coupe. Ferrari partnered with Alcoa to produce an entirely new all aluminum space-frame chassis that was 40% stiffer than the F355 which had utilized steel. The design was 28% lighter despite a 10% increase in overall dimensions. Along with a lightweight frame the new Pininfarina body styling deviated from traditions of the previous decade's sharp angles and flip-up headlights. The new V8 engine, common to all versions, utilizes a 3.6 litre capacity, flat plane crankshaft, titanium connecting rods and generates 400 bhp (300 kW). Despite what looks like on paper modest gains in reality the power to weight ratio was significantly improved on over the F355, this was due to the combination of both a lighter car and more power. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration performance improved from 4.6 to 4.3 seconds. The first model to be rolled out was the 360 Modena followed later by the 360 Spider and finally as a special edition, the Challenge Stradale: which was the highest performance road-legal version of the 360 produced by the factory, featuring carbon ceramic brakes (from the Enzo), track tuned suspension, aerodynamic gains, weight reduction, power improvements and revised gearbox software among its track focused brief. There were 8,800 Modenas and 7,565 Spiders produced.[1] In addition to this there were the low volume factory race cars, these were all derived from the 360 Modena and for the first time produced as a separate model in their own right (compared to being retro fit kit in previous incarnations). The first up was the 360 Modena Challenge, used in a one make series, the factory built racing cars were prepared by official tuner, Michelotto who also did the 360 N-GT. The N-GT was a 360 Challenge car evolved even further to compete more seriously in the FIA N-GT racing classes alongside other marques such as Porsche. Finally a single 360 Barchetta was produced as a special wedding present from Ferrari to Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo. S359

  • Ferrari 575 Superamerica With Drive With Dave
    • The Ferrari 550 Gran Turismo series was an instant hit with its front engine V12, delivering gobs of power and muscular good looks. The series evolved into the 575M and later, the opened air 575 Barchetta, a car with a rudimentary soft top that wasn’t really meant to address the elements. At the end of the model run, Ferrari released this car, the very special, limited edition 575 Superamerica. Superamerica comes from a Ferrari tradition in naming one-off or limited production cars with special names, in this case, taken from the famous 12 cylinder Superamerica cars built between 1956 and 1961. What makes the Ferrari 575 Superamerica special is an electronically controlled Revochromico rotating hardtop that with a flip of a switch, rotates the roof to over and onto the trunk, to a lie flat position, leaving the owner with the ability to enjoy their car no matter the weather. Pull down the locking handle, pull the little toggle switch on the center console, and voila, the roof rotates back and snugly flat into place in just 10 seconds. As well, that rotating roof holds another trick; the transparency of the glass can be controlled by varying the amount of electric current running through it. From fully opaque to nearly clear in a matter of minutes is all controlled by a button. The already monster 5.7 L 12 cylinder 575 motor was bumped up from 508 HP to 533 HP by reducing the back pressure to the exhaust system, and now that famous 12 cylinder note is so much more enjoyable with the top down. Ferrari build sheets state the 575 Superamerica weight at 200 lbs. more than the coupe due to structural strengthening, but the added horse power makes up for the increased weight and the Ferrari 575 Superamerica accelerates from zero to 60 MPH in a scant 4.2 seconds with the F-1 transmission. Billed as the fastest convertible in the world, at 199 MPH, it certainly lived up to the title. Only 559 Superamericas were built, and their low production numbers and unique design make them very sought after by sports car enthusiasts. Blending the romance of a convertible with the practicality of a coupe, the Superamerica is a truly rare collectible.   • Prodrive 550: Driving the last V-12 Ferrari to win at Le Mans | Henry Catchpole - The Driver's Seat
    • The Ferrari 550 Prodrive is the last V12 Ferrari to win at Le Mans and has to be one of, if not the BEST-SOUNDING CARS EVER to appear on the Hagerty YouTube channel. Henry Catchpole is the lucky chap behind the wheel. Today we are used to seeing the Ferrari Factory Team competing in endurance racing with the 499P, but for many years the Scuderia left it to others to race their cars. This was the case in the early 2000s, when Frédéric Dor and the company better known for WRC Subaru Imprezas created the 550 Prodrive and took on the Corvette C5-R both in Europe and North America. This particular Ferrari 550 Prodrive is chassis CRD03, currently owned by (and for sale with) Girardo & Co in the UK. It was raced at Le Mans no less than five times and finished on the podium in 2004 with Colin McRae, Darren Turner and Rickard Rydell behind the wheel. Yes, that Colin McRae, the 1995 World Rally Champion. Today chassis CRD03 is wearing its 2003 livery and the very good reason for those mountains is ski racer and Dakar winner, Luc Alphand. With 600bhp from its 6-litre V12 engine and a weight of around 1100kg or 2425lb it feels incredibly quick and the ability to flat shift with the sequential ‘box only adds to the sensation. In period, the Ferrari 550 Prodrive was never quicker than in the hands of Thomáš Enge, who set pole position for the 24hrs of Le Mans three years in a row in 2002, 2003 and 2004, also taking the LMGTS class victory in 2003. As such it was very special that Enge also joined us for the day at Dunsfold (perhaps better known as the Top Gear test track) to get reacquainted with the car that he put on pole in 2002. He also talked to us about his memories of racing the car and, to get a perspective from the rivals, we also talked to Oliver Gavin, who was racing the mighty Corvette C5-R at the time. His recollections of the sound are amazing! Elsewhere in the film we also cover Alpinestars, Bonfire Billy and sit in a 333SP.
