    • Back in 2003 Maserati introduced their single-marque championship, "Trofeo Maserati", with the introduction of the 4200GT Trofeo. It was powered by a Ferrari 4.2-litre V8 engine with a power of 413 hp. In 2005 they unveiled the Gransport, basically an upgraded 4200GT, and the Trofeo version too. During the same year, a new change in the GT3 rules paved the way to the eventual competing in the FIA GT championships and which led to the development of the Trofeo Light in order to have a Maserati for the FIA GT3 class. The dry weight of the car is around 1,150kg and the V8 engine is now producing 430hp at 7,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed "Cambiocorsa".     • Autos mit Brennstoffzelle fristen seit Jahren ein Nischendasein in der Elektromobilität. Wir von Electric Drive zeigen uns da durchaus offen für neue Technologien, denn Opel will das nun ändern. Der Opel Vivaro-e Hydrogen hat das Zeug dazu, wie wir bei einem kurzen Test erfahren konnten, denn er verfolgt ein ganz besonderes Konzept. Das Fahrzeug vereint zwei Technologien unter der gewohnten Karosserie des erfolgreichen Transporters. Der Wasserstoffantrieb ist hier mit einer zusätzlichen Batterie mit 10,5 kWh ausgestattet, die gewissermaßen aus dem Konzernregal kommt, denn sie ist auch im Peugeot 508 PHEV verbaut. Durch die unter den Vordersitzen verbaute Batterie kann die Leistung der eigentlichen Brennstoffzelle geringer ausfallen, da sie nicht den kompletten Kraftbedarf des Elektromotors decken muss. Dies ist nämlich der aus dem Vivaro-e bekannte Antrieb mit 100 kW Leistung und 260Nm. Ein 100 kW leistender Brennstoffzellen-Stack ist deutlich größer und teurer als der im Vivaro verbaute mit 45 kW. Dieser passt übrigens samt dem notwendigen Spannungswandler wie die berühmte Faust aufs Auge oberhalb des Frontantriebs in den Motorraum. Unter dem Fahrzeugboden, wo sonst die Batterie des Vivaro-e sitzt, verbergen sich nach dem Umbau drei Wasserstofftanks, die zusammen 4,4 kg Wasserstoff fassen, das dort mit 700 Bar Druck seiner Verwendung harrt. Die Brennstoffzelle kann durch dieses Konzept kontinuierlich in dem für sie optimalen Leistungsbereich betrieben werden, was der Langlebigkeit zugutekommt. Wird mehr Energie benötigt, zieht das System diese aus der Batterie. Umgekehrt können Energiegewinne aus der Rekuperation in diese eingespeist werden. Das Konzept an sich wäre schon schlüssig, doch Opel hat dem Wasserstoff-Vivaro auch noch eine Lademöglichkeit per Stecker verpasst. Mit dieser lässt sich der Energiespeicher an einer Wallbox oder notfalls auch Steckdose laden und das mit bis zu 11 kW. Was nach Spielerei klingt, kann im Alltag entscheidend sein. Die Dichte an H2-Stationen ist ja noch nicht so groß, wie man sich das wünschen würde, Wallboxen und Ladesäulen hingegen findet man überall im öffentlichen Bereich. Daher macht diese Kombination den Vivaro-e auch für den innerstädtischen Bereich interessant, wenn Handwerker oder Transportdienstleister keinen festen Parkplatz zur Verfügung haben. Bei einem durchschnittlichen Verbrauch von rund 1,2 kg Wasserstoff auf 100 km reichen die 4,4 kg fassenden Tanks für eine Reichweite von rund 350 km. Die Batterie ermöglicht dann weitere 50 km. Im H2-Betrieb auf Langstrecken kommt man dann in den Genuss der H2-typisch schnellen Tankvorgänge. In wenigen Minuten ist der Energiespeicher wieder komplett befüllt. Die Elektronik hielt die Batterie bei unseren Testfahrten immer rund um die 50% Marke gefüllt, allerdings waren wir auch weitestgehend auf Landstraßen unterwegs. Was meint ihr? Der Name nimmt Bezug auf die Sportcoupé-Serie Audi quattro. Auf der IAA in Frankfurt wurde der quattro spyder 1991 zum ersten Mal einer breiten Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. In a total of 30 minutes we did a brief street drive among Semis, and a few laps on the Autobahn Country Club full track - a track we'd never driven.     • Aston Martin's smallest model, the Vantage sports car, has just been treated to a serious powertrain makeover, and we've already tested the results on track. This, the fourth-generation V12 Vantage, has a 690bhp turbocharged V12 sourced from the DB11 and DBS Superleggera. It's now rated for a top speed of 200mph; it's faster-accelerating than any other Vantage; and it has a whacking 20 per more power to weight than any of its Vantage siblings. This is also the last time that Aston Martin will ever squeeze a V12 engine under the low bonnet of a Vantage super sports car, it says, as electrification rises amongst its commercial priorities, and it adopts more engines from Mercedes-AMG rather than those built at its old owner Ford's engine plant in Cologne, Germany.   • Aston Martin DB7 Zagato - Nicholas Mee & Co Ltd
    • Aston Martin once again collaborated with the Italian styling house in 2002, to produce a very limited run of just 99 DB7 Zagatos, re-igniting a partnership first established in 1961 with the production of the legendary DB4 GT Zagato. Built on short wheelbase chassis which is a unique to this mode, and fitted with the DB7 GT V12 engine and power is transmitted through a 6 speed manual transmission via a twin plate clutch. Uprated suspension and brakes completes the picture and delivers a focused yet relaxed driving experience. The DB7 Zagatos unique and distinctive body styling includes the wide and deep front grille and signature Zagato ‘Double Bubble’ roof lines, with interiors trimmed in luxurious aniline hides. All 99 cars were built to personal specification and delivered in 2003, before DB7 production ceased. This superbly specified example, number 53 of the 99 produced, is outstanding in all respects having covered just 11,400 miles in total. Finished in the DB4 Aston Green with Charcoal analine hides, colour coordinated interior finishers and charcoal carpeting. Previously supplied and maintained by Nicholas Mee & Company since 2012, we can confirm the car is excellent in every respect and ready to grace any collection. Supplied with its original accessories including the numbered DB7 Zagato owner’s manual, individual DB7 Zagato presentation book, numbered leather jacket, interior covers and numbered exterior cover. Further to our usual levels of preparation, the car will be supplied with a new MOT certificate and 12 months warranty, prior to delivery to its next custodian.

    • Aston Martin never seems to be stable, with every bit of good news followed by bad. Fernando Alonso has signed a long-term deal with its Formula 1 team… but the on-track results aren’t a patch on 12 months ago. After the facelift Vantage we drive here, a revised version of the DBX SUV follows… but in this transition phase to new models, Aston’s Q1 2024 sales dropped by a quarter. And on and on it goes. If the new Vantage is to break that cycle, it needs to be a sure-fire hit, with no ‘ifs’ and no ‘buts’. To do that, Aston has moved it out of Porsche 911 GTS territory, upping the old car’s twin-turbo V8 from 503bhp to 656bhp. It’s now more powerful than a 911 Turbo S – and with only two driven wheels, quite a starting point for an ‘entry level’ Aston Martin sports car… The looks are lairier too, and banished is the creaky Mercedes-sourced infotainment system, replaced by Aston’s own tech. But it’ll count for nowt if the overhauled chassis can’t handle all that power.
