The Chevrolet Motor Company was formed in 1911. 
The Corvette, Americas first sports car, was introduced in 1953, the first generation C1 Corvette, often referred to as the solid-axle models, built from 1953-62, Featured a fibreglass body and were available as a roadster only.
1953-55 Corvettes featured laid back headlight openings with mesh stoneguard treatment, removable side windows and the body rolled over and down between the seats.
In 1953, only 300 hand built 6 cyl cars were made, they were all Polo White with Red interiors and black canvas soft tops.
In 1954, a few minor design upgrades. More colours were available, Guardsman Red and Pennant Blue (beige interior), all canvas tops, now beige. 3640 built in 1954
1955; more colours, all but 7 cars got the new 195hp 265 V8, a broader radiator grille and an exaggerated gold 'V' (for V8) was overlaid on the existing 'Chevrolet' logo on the lower front fenders. Blue was replaced by Harvest Gold (Green trim and top) and Corvette Copper (Beige trim and top) Only 700 built in 1955.
Chevrolet were also selling the run of the mill cars, the base 150, mid spec 210 and top of the line Bel Air in 1955
