Light Copper. The Lincoln Motor Company was originally founded in 1917 and since 1922 has been the luxury vehicle division of the American Ford Motor Company. Lee Iacocca decided the new Continental Mark Series would be based on Fords Thunderbird platform, the Continental squarer and more upright and with a Rolls Royce style grille and hideaway headlamps. The first of these new style Continentals, the Mark III was built from 1968-71. Available as a 2 door Hardtop Coupe. Standard Continentals were available in 4 door Sedan and 2 door Coupe. In 1969 the vinyl roof was an option, from 1970, it was standard, also in 1970, windshield wipers were now concealed, and the wheel covers were redesigned. 1971 cars got high back seats. Replaced by the Mk IV in 1972. Engine; 365hp 460 cu in V8
