  • Ferrari 500 Superfast, Museo Ferrari Maranello, Maranello, Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, Europe
    • The 500 Superfast was a sports car built by Ferrari from 1964 to 1966 in two series. Shown to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 1964, was the latest model Ferrari built in extremely limited for selected customers. In fact, the plants of the car manufacturer from Maranello were increasingly converting to the production line. Were built 36 aircraft, plus a 330 GT 2 + 2 with the body design of the 500 Superamerica, delivered to Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands. Other famous buyers of this expensive model (its price was double that of a Rolls-Royce) were Peter Sellers and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. The first series were built 25 units, while the second, which appeared in 1966, they were manufactured 12. The car's design was derived from that of the 400 Superamerica, and was designed by Pininfarina. The model had spoked wheels, though at the time Ferrari had already started to mount light alloy rims. It was available in both left-hand drive and right. With this configuration were produced eight copies. The number "500" in the model designation recalled the total displacement of the engine, which was 5 liters, and not one single. In general, in fact, Ferrari called his cars referring to the latter. This engine was designed and manufactured specifically for the 500 Superfast. Stemmed from marginally engines "long block" designed by Aurelio Lampredi, of which he shared only the distance between the axes of the cylinders. In fact, the engine originally drew especially those Gioacchino Colombo to "short block". The engine was a V12 at 60 °, front, longitudinal, and with a displacement of 4962.96 cc. The bore and stroke were respectively 88 mm and 68 mm, while the compression ratio was 8.8: 1. The maximum power output was 400 hp at 6500 rpm. The distribution was SOHC per bank of cylinders, with two valves for each of them. The power was supplied by three twin-choke carburettors Weber brand and model 40 DCZ / 6. The ignition was single and was formed by two coils with the distributors placed in the rear of the engine and two coils; the candles were placed on the outside of the "V" of the cylinders. Lubrication was wet sump. The frame was tubular steel, while the body was two-seat coupe. The front suspension was independent with wishbones and stabilizer bar. Rear ones were formed by a rigid axle with leaf springs and two longitudinal struts. Both were equipped with telescopic shock absorbers and coil springs, the latter coaxial shock absorbers on the same rear suspension. The brakes were disc, while the steering was worm and sector gear. In the first series the transmission was made up of a gearbox 4 synchromesh and the fifth with overdrive, while the second was provided a system 5-speed, always synchronized. When there was the change from four to five reports, there was also a shift from a single plate clutch operated mechanically to a hydraulically governed. The maximum speed reached by the model was 280 km/h.

    • The 2021 Porsche Taycan is huge fun in its four-wheel drive, Turbo or 4S forms. But what if less is more? This car is just badged Porsche Taycan, a simple name signifying that it only has one electric motor, so is purely rear-wheel drive. That in turn means it's lighter than other Taycans, weighing from 2050kg, which means it could be better? We'll see. The latest Porsche Taycan has two power options, depending on which battery size you spec. Which is where it all gets a bit complicated. As standard, costing £70,690, it has 322bhp in normal driving or 402bhp on overboost when using launch control. Specify a Performance Battery Plus, though, and your £74,769 Taycan gets a bigger battery, and you'll have 375bhp in normal driving or 469bhp on overboost. As standard, the battery has a 71kWh usable capacity or, with a Performance Battery Plus, an 87kWh battery. That lifts its weight from 2050kg to 2130kg, hence the extra power - Porsche wouldn't want a 'Performance Battery' car to be slower. Anyway it also gives a longer range, which is 268 miles with the smaller battery and 301 miles with the bigger one, on the official WLTP drive cycle. Whether you'll get that in the real world is another matter. Stay tuned to see whether this lighter, rear-drive EV is just as compelling as other Taycans, too.     • The 2021 DTM champion is Maximilian Götz! The 35-year-old driver from the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT claimed the title by winning his second race at the DTM Norisring powered by BWT. Götz benefitted from the drama about the two title favorites Liam Lawson and Kelvin van der Linde. In the first corner of the starting lap, there was contact between van der Linde's ABT-Audi and Lawson's Red Bull-Ferrari. As a result, Lawson retired from the title race, by only driving very slowly with his damaged Ferrari. In lap no. 54 of 67, van der Linde suffered from a tire damage at the left rear and fell far behind after a spin and pit stop. With the support of his brand colleagues, the way was clear for Götz to win the race and thus to win the title. In a spectacular first DTM season with GT racing cars, Götz scored a total of 230 points in front of a large crowd at the Norisring. 19-year-old Liam Lawson from New Zealand was runner-up with 227 points ahead of Kelvin van der Linde with 208 points.   • NEW Honda e 2020 review | First drive | Autocar
    • The 2020 Honda e is Honda's first full battery electric vehicle. It's compact on the outside - smaller than a Honda Jazz - and pretty compact on the inside, too. But it is quite funky in there, with two 12in digital displays as well as a full digital instrument pack and, as standard, rear view cameras instead of conventional door mirrors. With a 35.5kWh battery within its short wheelbase, it's relatively light for a BEV. A little over 1500kg is heavy for a car of supermini size, but it's light for a BEV. The downside is that, unlike cars like a Volkswagen ID3 or a Nissan Leaf, the Honda e has a relatively small battery and therefore a limited range. It should drive well, though. The motor is at the back which allows a tight turning circle and a steering system with no torque steer, while there is four-wheel independent suspension thanks to MacPherson struts all around, which promise a lively driving experience.
