  • My Dream First Drive in the MERCEDES CLK GTR!
    • Never in my life did I think I might have an opportunity to drive the absolute icon that is the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR... but that dream has become reality! Thanks to @the_collection1, it wasn't even just "a drive" but a full blown convoy on the Bahrain F1 circuit with his McLaren F1, Porsche 911 GT1 and Maserati MC12 as well as a P1 and the epic Apollo IE. WOW! During a track evening hosted at the Bahrain International Circuit by Supercars Club Arabia, countless incredible cars attended including some particularly special members of the garage belonging to @the_collection1 - whose collection is one of, if not the very best in the entire world. Alongside it was also a presentation of the new Apollo IE and an opportunity to see and hear the car in action, including a parade lap featuring the icons present. With almost no notice ahead of time, @the_collection1 invited me to join in the convoy, and in this case to take the wheel of one of my dream cars - the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. I have to apologise for my giddiness and even in some cases incorrect statistics - this was a whirlwind moment that caught me completely unaware but was so magical at the same time. There are only 20 units of the CLK GTR Coupe, plus an additional 2 prototypes and 6 Roadsters; the road going version of the successful FIA GT1 racecar. With a 6.9l V12 with over 600hp and almost 800nm, it's an immense machine with a completely raw driving experience. With a value on the car of around £3-4m, combined with the others taking part we were looking at a £25m convoy for a few laps together in a scene unlikely to ever be repeated again. To be part of this alone was something unique and special; to do so at the wheel of the Mercedes CLK GTR even more so. I cannot thank @the_collection1 enough for this unbelievable experience. Meanwhile, unique styling cues inside and out give the new model a sharpened athletic appearance highlighting its performance potential. As well as offering supercar pace and a highly focused driving experience, there is no compromise in the refined nature of the Continental’s ride quality. This fusion of extremes in luxury and performance make the Supersports the ultimate iteration of a model that has come to define and dominate the grand touring genre. Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors, said: "The Supersports name is legendary at Bentley. From the very first Supersports of the 1920s, to the Continental Supersports of 2009 – and now with the third iteration of this iconic model – it is a name which excites, impassions and thrills. Only Bentley could create a car which blends immense performance and unrivalled luxury in this way.” Extreme Power and Torque; Stand-Out Performance A bespoke drivetrain featuring Bentley’s W12 engine combines extreme power and torque to offer exhilarating performance. Key to the Supersports’ additional outputs are newly designed, higher-capacity turbochargers and a revised charge-air cooling system which create more boost and additional power. In order to harness these additional outputs, upgrades have also been made to the Continental’s cranktrain, including new main and conrod bearings. These extensive engine revisions result in an increase of 80 PS (79 bhp) and 217 Nm (160 lb.ft.) over the 2009 Supersports model – a 10 percent power-to-weight and 25 percent torque-to-weight ratio improvement. The top speed rises by five miles per hour (and the 0-60 mph time drops by 0.3 seconds). The Supersports also benefits from a new torque converter which locks up faster allowing the car to make best use of the enhanced torque figure of 1,017 Nm (750 lb. ft.), and accelerate from standstill even more rapidly. In order to rein in this immense performance the new Supersports is fitted with high-performance carbon ceramic brakes with enhanced cooling. The brake discs are the largest of their type in the world, providing excellent performance with minimal fade under extreme conditions. The brakes sit behind lightweight 21” forged alloy wheels, together offering a 20 kg weight saving in unsprung mass. A further 5 kg weight-saving is offered via an optional titanium exhaust system. The new Supersports is the lightest-ever iteration of the current Continental GT and lighter than the 2009 four-seat Supersports model. Enhancing the driver experience still further, the exhaust system has been redesigned to breathe more freely and provide an unmistakeable Bentley soundtrack, with down-shifts eliciting a rifle-fire crackle. Ultimate Handling and Luxury Refinement This performance is matched by athletic handling. The Supersports has a specifically calibrated and updated version of the torque vectoring system first introduced on the Continental GT3-R. This dynamic system brakes individual front and rear wheels during acceleration out of corners to increase performance, whilst maintaining full power to unbraked wheels, and brakes the inside rear wheel on turn-in to improve agility. It also has a bespoke, less intrusive stability control calibration for a more precise chassis response. The Revolución is an upgraded version of the Pagani Zonda R and it features a tuned Mercedes-AMG M120 6.0-litre V12 engine that is now able to produce 800hp (50 more than the standard R) and 730 Nm of torque. It also has some aero upgrades and a DRS system. Only 5 examples of this track beast has been produced.     • Now up for sale in our Houston showroom is this 1968 Chrysler Newport Custom. The Newport was a name used by Chrysler for both a hardtop body designation and also for its lowest priced model between 1961 and 1981. Chrysler first used the Newport name on a 1940 show car of which five vehicles were produced. This one is a true survivor car that has only 31000 original miles! Featuring a 383 CID V8 that is the original to the car and is paired to the original 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine & transmission were both professionally rebuilt less than 1 year & 1000 miles ago, both of which work great. The green exterior paint is in original & in great condition for being almost a 50 year old car. All chrome bumper, trim pieces and emblems are in great condition. The interior is also in great condition show a two-tone vinyl seats. The dash, door panels, carpet, headliner, are all in great condition. This two owner car has car has only 1 previous owner and the car was in storage from 1995-2015 & only drove it in the warm summer days prior to 95. The car has the original hub cabs that are in great condition as well to match the rest of the car. The wheels are wrapped in Goodyear tires that are also like new with plenty of miles left on them. The truck is again in fantastic condition showing no rust & it appears as it would from 1968 revealing the original spare tire & wheel jack. Other features on this car are AC, AM Radio, power brakes, power steering, & vinyl interior. This is a great example of how a car can still look after 50 years if you take care of it like the owners of this car have.
