  • 612HP and Track-Ready: 2025 Mercedes AMG GT63 Pro - First Look!
    • Welcome back to RBR, and say hello to the #MercedesAMG #GT63Pro! As I predicted, this is the first more race-focused #AMGGT variant, showing that AMG is just getting started with this integration of the GT. 🚨 RBR Partners Finance your car through Charles & Dean. Reach out and mention RBR! https://www.charlesanddean.com/rbr --- And it’s an interesting first variant - it’s got more power than the GT63 at 612HP, optimised aero inspired by the Black Series and AMG ONE, and a whole new cooling strategy, which is why the more aggressive front exists. Changes compared to the standard car are immediately obvious, with the standard GT looking more relaxed despite its big GT black-like mouth. The Pro is more aggressive, breaking up the bulk of the front end. It has wheels reminiscent of the GT R Pro and a race flag badge on the rear like the Pro. But it’s not all for show. As I mentioned, that new front end is a giveaway of some of the changes done on the GT to make it better at going fast! With 612HP, 850NM of torque, and a 0-200 km/h time of 10.9 seconds, the GT63 Pro reaches a top speed of 317 km/h. Two radiators are now positioned in the new mouths of the bumper to improve cooling. Why Pro? It’s a term AMG used once before on the GT R. The GT R Pro made the standard GT R more track-focused. But that Pro made it quite one-dimensional - with a singular suspension setting that was good on track and horrid at everything else. Surprisingly, the GT R and Black Series were both much better at being daily drivers. The Pro variant added no power but focused on aero and cooling to make the car more track-worthy. That’s what’s happening with this GT63 Pro, I think! Though with the GT63 Pro, it retains all its daily charm: You can spec 2+2 seats, option for epic semi-active AMG suspension, and the interior remains uncompromised, keeping the luxurious feel. It feels like an S model, a stage above, where you can have your cake and eat it too! Is it a necessary variant? I never drove the GT and thought it needed more power - if anything, I thought less power with the GT55 might be better. But a little more dynamism is always welcome, and the design elements on this model certainly add to its appeal. That’s all for today!   • NEW Maserati GranTurismo Folgore – £200k, 750bhp All-Electric GT Car Tested | Top Gear
    • Welcome to a world first. This is the new GranTurismo Folgore. When it arrives next year, it’ll be Maserati’s first pure EV. And it’s quite something: a tri-motor layout powered by a 92kwh battery and developing 750bhp. There will be no hybrid option, but as well as this all-electric model the marque will offer the GranTurismo with the MC20 supercar’s twin-turbo V6 Nettuno motor with either 483bhp (in the entry level Modena version) or 542bhp (for the Trofeo). But electric is the clever one, able to divvy power up between the motors and do complex torque vectoring stuff through corners. Range is quoted at 280 miles on the WLTP cycle. Petrols are likely to be around the £150k mark, this Folgore closer to £200,000. The name, by the way. It roughly translates as lightning or thunderbolt, and will be applied to all electric Maseratis in future. Folgore versions of the MC20 supercar and Grecale SUV will follow soon after. Another highlight is the HALO system, which the car uses instead of the conventional A-pillar. This element was inspired by the premier class of motorsport and has been part of every Formula 1™ vehicle since 2018. It protects the driver’s head in the event of an accident. The safety system in the Mercedes AMG PureSpeed consists of a robust tubular steel bracket. The bifurcated safety feature is firmly attached to the car’s shell structure. The aerodynamically optimised component protects both passengers; as such, it bifurcates behind the car’s occupants. The roll-over protection system also features two rigid roll bars that are concealed beneath the aerodynamic scoops. These components are also part of the shell structure.   • FIRST LOOK: Porsche 911 ST – Ultimate 911 with GT3 RS Power | Top Gear
    • Welcome to the Porsche 911 S/T. Designed by Porsche as a present to itself on the 60th anniversary of the 911 (there’s 1,963 planned in honour of the birth year), the S/T revives a grand old name from 1969 when a 911 S was sprinkled with a touch of motorsport fairy dust to become the S/T - a fearsome competition car that did without the aid of big wings and hefty aero. A kind of beautiful Frankenstein’s monster, the S/T was a competition car, but not prolific. The modern S/T follows the same path, though with much more modern vim. Mounted in the back is the naturally-aspirated, 521bhp 4-litre boxer from the GT3 RS coupled to that short-ratio manual (with shorter cogs than a GT3). There are no big wings bar a short Gurney flap on the electric rear spoiler, which itself doesn’t raise quite as high as other 911s. The rear-wheel steer system is ditched to save weight and complexity, and the bonnet, front wings, ‘cage, rear anti-roll bars and shear panel underneath are all carbon fibre. The wheels are centre-lock and magnesium, the glass thinned to shave precious pounds. Even the battery has been on a diet, and now consists of a lightweight race-style lithium-ion unit. Cobble all this together with the slim carbon bucket seats along with weight savings from the powertrain and clutch, and the S/T becomes the lightest production 911. With a kerbweight of 1,380kg, it’s 40kg lighter than a manual GT3 Touring. There are plenty more facts and figures, and who better to show Top Gear magazine’s Tom Ford around the new Super 911 than the man behind it and the boss of Porsche's GT division, Andreas Preuninger. Four years after the Mission E concept debuted, and a week after its initial debut, the Porsche Taycan has arrived at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. It's already proven its chops by picking up a record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Likely even more important to buyers is that there'll finally be a real alternative to the Tesla Model S, which has long ruled the large luxury electric sedan roost. Whether or not Porsche will be able to loosen Tesla's stranglehold on the segment remains to be seen, but attractive looks, gonzo performance and a tech-laden cabin appear to put the Taycan in the position to do just that when it goes on sale later this year. Visually, Porsche designers were able to carry over a healthy helping of design traits from the Mission E concept to the production Taycan. The exterior's hunkered-down stance, low-sloping front end, pronounced fenders, flush door handles and continuous rear light strip all make the cut. Four-point LED daytime running lights are also part of the package. At launch, the Taycan will be offered in a Turbo trim riding on 20-inch wheels, and Turbo S specification that gets standard carbon fiber trim and sits on 21-inch wheels. (Yes, we realize it's odd to use "Turbo" and "Turbo S" on a car that doesn't use turbochargers -- or, you know, an internal combustion engine.) With a drag coefficient of 0.22, the Taycan Turbo possesses the lowest drag of any vehicle in Porsche's current production lineup. Full underbody paneling also contributes to its slippery aerodynamics. The Taycan Turbo S is slightly less efficient at cutting through the air, with a 0.25 drag coefficient. At its core, the Taycan's body is built from a mixture of steel and aluminum joined together with a variety of different welding processes, screws, rivets and adhesives. Upping passenger safety is hot-formed steel for the body's pillars, side roof frame and seat cross member, and boron steel for the bulkhead cross member. All of this improves passenger safety. For performance purposes, the shock absorber mounts, axle mounts and rear side members are constructed of die-cast or forged aluminum, while all body panels minus the front and rear bumpers are also made from aluminum to shave weight. In total, 37% of the Taycan is made of aluminum.
