• Spielberg bare map numbers contextless 2021 corner names
• This is a map of the w:en:Red Bull Ring, formerly known as the A1-Ring and the Österreichring, in w:en:Spielberg, Austria. It shows the circuit roughly as it has been in the period spanning 2014-2021. Corner numbers are marked with the numbers "1" through "10", the start/finish line is marked with a checkered flag and a large arrow showing a direction of travel. The marker "S1" shows the end of the first sector, and the marker "S2" shows the end of the second sector. The location of these markers was sourced from the FIA's official Formula One circuit map. The arrow marked "N" shows the direction of north. The track layout is in black, while the pit lane is shown in blue. The corner names are as given on the venue's website in the year 2021. The dashed lines show the sectors in roughly the same colours that Formula One's official graphics do, although this has been edited to fit with a colour palette intended to reduce the likelihood of issues occurring for colourblind viewers. Sector 1 is salmon, sector 2 is cyan, and sector 3 is yellow.

Wondering whether people are liking the idea of a mini, the good driving experience they provide, and are buying into the idea of a bit of extra rear legroom and boot space... London 24th April 2008

• Ford Focus Mk. 2 (Europe)
• This is an "American" car that cannot be seen in America at all. The original Ford Focus was a global car, identical across the world and built at many different locations worldwide. While building a global car was routinely done by Japanese companies, the Focus, back in 1999, was the first successful American global car. Previous attempts, such as the Chevrolet Cavalier/Vauxhall Cavalier/Opel Ascona and the Ford Escort, ended up creating two completely different designs for different markets, and a more recent effort, the Ford Mondeo, was only a half-success, with the North American variant, the Contour, being cheapened to outright junk. But Ford, too obsessed with its light trucks and facing low profit margins in the car market, chose to not market this redesigned Focus in the US and Canada, instead offering a revised original Focus. This Focus, which was offered in the rest of the world, shares a platform with the Mazda 3 and Volvo's smaller sedans. As the American automotive industry went to the brink before mounting a recovery, the newest trend is to reduce the redundancy between North American and European operations. To that end, and to satisfy the North Americans' newfound demand for fuel efficiency, Ford introduced the European Fiesta to North America, and from mid-2011 on, Focus Mk. 3 once again becomes a global model. Similarly, General Motors has developed the Chevrolet Cruze, which is really a Daewoo with an Opel powertrain, as the Focus's competitor, and it is also available worldwide.

• Mercedes-Benz 219 Ponton
• This is only the second Ponton I've ever got to see since I visited Mercedes-Benz's excellent museum at its home in Stuttgart, Germany. And the first presentable one - the previous one was a mere shell. The Ponton ("pontoon") was a line of simple, rugged, reliable sedans for postwar West Germany and beyond, and helped rebuild Mercedes-Benz. The Ponton, the first unibody design from Mercedes-Benz, is the ancestor of all current Mercedes-Benz sedans, including the C, E, and S classes. The 219 (chassis code W105) was an interesting model, built from 1956 to 1959. From the dashboard rearward, the car is identical to the 180/190 (W120), the original four-cylinder Ponton from 1953, complete with single-pane rear windows and the simpler instrumentation. But to the front is the longer nose of the 220, to house a bigger engine, a 2.2-liter single-carburetor 85-horsepower 6-cylinder. 27,845 were built. (Source: Wikipedia) This particular car's front plate is imitation European export plate. The plate number is actually the sequential number assigned to this car by the State of California in the 1970s; a real California plate is on the rear. California does require the display of front plates, though many motorists skirt around the issue by either displaying the front plate inside the windshield (to prevent theft - a possible issue with vanity plates), or by fabricating a faux-foreign plate like this with the same number as the real California plate.

• Mercedes-Benz 280SL, top up
• This is some strange gray market version, as the 280SL was never officially available in the United States. Has the full federalized bumpers and headlights. I have actually seen a number of these on the East Coast (many with fewer concessions to US regulations), I guess it's a sensible car to import since the engine was already available in the W123 and so the emissions hurdles were easily surmounted. In East Hampton, NY, of course, and with an aging blonde lady at the wheel.

• Lotus Elise S1 111S, LRG
• This is the 111S variant of the series 1 Lotus Elise in Lotus Racing Green. The 111S variant has the VVC engine, a rear spoiler, headlamp covers, 6 spoke wheels and a few cosmetic tweaks. This particular car also has Sport 160-style raiser blocks fitted under the spoiler to lift it a little higher as well as series 2 suspension fitted which slightly lowers the car over standard. Taken at the "Thatcham Classic 2009" car show. The 1.8L VVC engine officially puts out 143BHP with a quoted figure of 5.38 seconds for 0-60 mph, and 14.4 seconds for 0-100 mph. The ombined MPG figure is 38.6 (imperial gallons - I believe that's 32 in USA MPG). So it's fast, fun and not too bad on the fuel economy considering the performance :).

• In Memoriam: Tom Barstow (1943 - 2009)
• This jacket was one of several shop jackets given to my partner, Kurt, by his father, Tom, who worked as a general foreman for over 40 years at the River Rouge Steel Plant, owned and operated by the Ford Motor Company. As a car lover, I was pleased to have married into a family with long ties to the auto industry. I love these jackets because they bring together two of my favorite types of design: American cars and logos. Tom Barstow died of lung cancer on 19 October 2009 at the age of 66 in Grosse Ile, Michigan. Resquiat in pacem.

• 1968-73 Mercedes Benz W115 200
• This one has interesting Greek plates. I've now discovered the meaning is the car belongs to the Automobile and Touring Club of Greece. I believe the writing on the right reads "EANA" or ΕΛΠΑ in Greek. Searching that directs me to this website: www.elpa.gr/ but it's in Greek so I can't understand a word of it. Love these old classics, and they look more modern than they are, in my opinion. This example was 'bottom of the range', with its 2.0 litre engine. Looks remarkably neat and tidy, obviously the owner cherishes it. It's a pre-facelift example, and 175,000 were sold in its 5 year lifespan. Here's the interesting fact of the day: In 2004 a Greek taxi driver donated his 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D to the Mercedes-Benz Museum Collection with 4.6 million kilometres on the odometer, which is recognised as the Mercedes-Benz with the highest recorded mileage known to date. That's 2.8 million miles it did! Quite unbelievable!

It's getting very difficult to spot old Jettas nowadays, and this thirty year old example is now just one of two left licenced! You can tell it's a worker due to the roofrack and faded appearance. I wonder if the owner knows how rare his car is?! The vehicle details for A908 CPM are: Date of Liability 01 01 2014 Date of First Registration 12 08 1983 Year of Manufacture 1983 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1457cc CO₂ Emissions Not Available Fuel Type PETROL Export Marker N Vehicle Status Licence Not Due Vehicle Colour BLUE Vehicle Type Approval Not Available Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle 6 Months Rate £77.00 12 Months Rate £140.00 It's a shame cars like this are forgotten- Not many cars are one of only two left on the roads.

Innovative engineering makes driving effortless, so you can forge a graceful path through an ever-changing world. www.wbayer.com/ www.flickr.com/wbayercom www.facebook.com/wbayercom

• To quote the title of the old Monty Python spinoff, “and now for something completely different.” As I mentioned previously, a few weeks back when I went to Cars & Coffee at duPont REGISTRY, there was a stance car show the very same day, just a few hours later. This isn’t the typical performance-focused content that I feature, but this was the first meet of this particular title/series, so I decided to check it out. hoonart.wordpress.com/2011/06/17/straight-stance-v1/ Also seen on Jalopnik in Rick Ross's Guide to High End Automobiles

• Took the Z out for a drive today. Everything about this picture is horrible, especially the lighting (sun blazing off the hood), but it's the only picture I stopped to take, and I wanted to document it. This was taken behind the hangars at a small air strip I happened across not far from Piscataway.

• Toyota C-HR crossover hybride
