An integral part of British sports car heritage, independent manufacturer TVR has produced models over the years with names such as Griffith, Chimaera and Cerbera, adding to its mythical status in British automobile manufacturing history. This year TVR is celebrating its 70th anniversary and to mark that milestone it is launching a brand-new, 5L Cosworth-enhanced V8-engined sports car. Motul’s products have been used successfully in the development process, significantly adding to the performance and quality of the engineering. Recognised the world over for its models’ distinctively sounding ‘roar’, the new TVR will be the first new model for the marque in over nine years. Another ground-breaker is that the car will be launched at the world-renowned Goodwood Revival event on 8th September – the first time a manufacturer has done so. The new, as yet unnamed, lightweight model, will use innovative design and manufacturing techniques and features a carbon fiber construction courtesy of the Gordon Murray Design company. Gordon Murray, of course, is famous for his technically innovative, pioneering engineering of Formula One cars of the past and the first McLaren high performance road car. The V8, front-engined car will have manual transmission and rear wheel drive, and will be powered by Motul’s fully synthetic 5W20 engine oil which has been fully tested and approved by TVR. It will feature the marque’s superior styling and be hand-crafted rather than mass-produced. Motul’s complete range will be recommended to customers including gearbox oil, differential oil, brake fluid, coolants and windscreen washer. High quality, individual, cherished vehicles need high quality, proven products; Motul and TVR are the perfect fit. Because in this movie, the very nastiest bad guy - you know, the chief henchman who does the dirtiest deeds and dies just before the big boss bad guy gets his - drives a '72 Gran Torino Sportsroof. The inspiration for the Gran Torino in Fast & Furious comes from a similar Torino built for Dan Widmann at Steve Strope's Pure Vision Design - the same shop from which emerged the Hammer Road Runner that's also featured in the film. Strope brought Widmann's Torino to a casting session and a star - well, a co-star - was born. The one significant visual change between Widmann's Torino and the replicas built for the film is that Widmann's car is blue, and the bad guy Torinos were painted green. It seems that blue was already assigned as super-dreamy Paul Walker's color in Fast & Furious, so the bad attitude character "Fenix Rise" (played by Laz Alonzo) would have to wear green. Little matter, however, as the Gran Torino looks dang good in green. To portray Fenix's FoMoCo, the picture car department acquired six '72 Torino Sportsroof models and one '73. As with the Charger, some of the stunt cars were fit with Chevy crate V8s and automatic transmissions, but at least one of the cars was originally equipped with a 429 and four-speed manual transmission. Five of the cars were either destroyed during production or ripped apart for parts. Among the Torinos destroyed was that 429 four-speed car. Sometimes evil must be done in order to portray evil.

    • Mercedes’ SLS AMG Black Series and AMG GT Black Series are two of the wildest, rarest, most expensive (and longest-named) cars ever to emerge from Affalterbach. But the reason they feel so extreme might not be the one you imagine. Think AMG and traditionally you think monster engines. And yes, both of these cars have very impressive V8 hardware under their long, wide bonnets. But with legislation pushing AMG (along with everyone else) towards downsizing and turbocharging in the engine department, it feels like there has been a shift in focus over recent years towards the handling of its cars. It’s been noticeable throughout the AMG range, but nowhere is it more evident than in the Black Series where this trend arguably started with the SLS. Although they have 622bhp and 720bhp respectively, these are not just straight line super heroes; Both these Black Series creations have a real road racer vibe to them. Inside they might not feel quite as stripped out as a Porsche 911 GT2 RS or a Ferrari 458 Speciale, but the suspension set up feels every bit as focussed. What’s more, the retention of certain creature comforts inside gives both Black Series cars a surprising sheen of usability to go with their huge performance and extreme tyres (particularly in the case of the Cup 2R rubber on the GT). The end result is that AMG has produced two of the most exciting cars of recent years. April 1991 im VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach gefertigten Personenkraftwagen-Baureihe des Herstellers IFA. Der Name leitet sich von der gleichnamigen Burg am Produktionsstandort Eisenach ab. Von den über 1.600.000 produzierten Fahrzeugen waren am 1. Januar 2014 in Deutschland laut Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt noch 7.134 zugelassen. Von 1956 bis 1988 wurde der Wartburg von einem Dreizylinder-Zweitaktmotor angetrieben, der Mitte Oktober 1988 (Wartburg 1.3) durch einen von der Volkswagen AG entwickelten Vierzylinder-Viertaktmotor abgelöst wurde. Im Jahr 1968 arbeitete man an einer weiteren Variante des Wartburg 353. Es entstand ein Coupé mit einer Karosserie aus GFP-Elementen (glasfaserverstärktes Polyesterharz). Eingebaut wurde ein Renaultmotor mit 1397 cm3 Hubraum und 54 kW. Der Prototyp hatte ein Fließheck und Frontmotor. Die Entwicklung kam auf Grund politischer Entscheidung aber über das Prototypstadium nicht hinaus. _________________________________________________________________ De merknaam Wartburg, naar het gelijknamige kasteel bij Eisenach (Thüringen), werd in 1899 al gebruikt voor een auto gebouwd door de Eisenacher Automobilfabrik. Later gebruikte deze fabriek de naam Dixi. Dixi werd overgenomen door BMW. De BMW-fabriek in Eisenach kwam na de Tweede Wereldoorlog terecht in de Sovjetzone. De fabriek bleef in gebruik voor de productie van auto's. Men produceerde onder de merknamen IFA en EMW. De auto's van het merk Wartburg werden van 1956 tot 1991 gebouwd door Automobilwerken Eisenach in Eisenach. Wartburg was samen met de merken Trabant en Barkas een onderdeel van Industrieverband Fahrzeugbau (IFA). De modellen 311, 312, 313 en 353 werden aangedreven door een driecilinder tweetaktmotor. Vanaf 1988 werd een door Volkswagen ontwikkelde viercilindermotor gebruikt in het model 1.3. Wartburg, net als Trabant, probeerde al in een vroeg stadium een alternatief te vinden voor de tweetaktmotoren. Er werd onder andere geëxperimenteerd met de Comotor wankelmotor en zelfs een V6 tweetaktmotor werd geprobeerd. Ook motoren van andere fabrikanten als Renault werden geprobeerd, maar kosten en de staat verhinderden de inzet van een van deze varianten. Maar ook de carrosserie was punt van discussie en ook hier probeerde men vergeefs te moderniseren. Ook samenwerking met onder andere Škoda liep uiteindelijk op niks uit. Pas in 1988 kwam een modernere variant met Volkswagen-viertaktmotor, maar dit bleek te laat om op de vrije markt de concurrentie met modernere auto's aan te kunnen. Op 9 november 1989 viel de muur en op 14 april 1991 werd de productie van de Wartburg 1.3 stopgezet. Een deel van de fabriek, het vanaf 1977 opgerichte Betriebsteil Eisenach-West, werd door Opel gekocht en is nog altijd in gebruik voor productie van onder andere de Opel Corsa. The name "Wartburg" derives from Wartburg Castle on one of the hills overlooking the town of Eisenach where the cars were manufactured. From the 1950s, Wartburgs had a three-cylinder two-stroke engine with only seven major moving parts (three pistons, three connecting rods and one crankshaft). The marque dates back to 1898 when a car made by Automobilwerk Eisenach was named the Wartburgwagen. It consisted of a two-seating cane chair, four mudgards, two headlamps, and a two-cylinder, 765-cc engine. Its top speed was 25 mph. The name was dropped in 1904 when the company changed hands but re-appeared briefly in the early 1930s on the BMW 3/15 DA-3 Wartburg, which was BMW's first sports car.
