    • C’est la grosse baston en ce moment entre Renault et Peugeot : à peine la Clio 5 lancée, la 208 II est arrivée. Aujourd’hui, on essaie le 2008 II, rival du Captur II qu’on a essayé il y a tout juste un mois. Ce 2008 et le Captur vont s’affronter sur le segment des petits SUV, enfin petit entre guillements puisque ce nouveau 2008 il a beaucoup grandi par rapport à la première génération : il atteint aujourd’hui 4,30 m de long, soit c’est 14 cm de plus que le premier 2008, et 7 cm de plus que le nouveau Captur. En fait, avec cette taille, 4,30 m, on est à la frontière entre les petits SUV et les SUV compacts : un Seat Ateca ne mesure que 6 cm de plus par exemple… Cette taille en hausse permet de laisser la place à un futur SUV plus petit appelé 1008, pressenti pour 2020. Le 2008, revenons à nos moutons, utilise la même plateforme que les DS3 Crossback ou 208. Il reprend les phares de cette dernière et un design assez marqué, avec les 3 griffes qui sont vite devenues le signe distinctif de la marque. Le toit noir est de série à partir de la finition GT Line, de même que les feux avant 100 % LED. Les motorisations débutent à 100 ch en essence comme en diesel et montent à 155 ch en essence, comme sur notre modèle d’essai, uniquement proposé en boîte automatique et associé à la finition haut de gamme GT. A l’intérieur, on change tout par rapport à la première génération de 2008 en reprenant en fait la planche de bord de la nouvelle 208, avec un agencement analogue à celui du 3008. Sur notre modèle d’essai haut de gamme, on a droit à la configuration la plus flatteuse avec l’écran central de 10 pouces, les doubles touches piano, le combiné d’instrument numérique avec effet 3D, toujours à regarder non pas à travers mais par-dessus le petit volant. Dès le premier niveau de finition, les plastiques sont moussés sur la partie supérieure de la planche de bord : la qualité de présentation est plus flatteuse que celle d’un T-Roc et n’a en fait pas grand-chose à envier à un concurrent premium comme le DS3 Crossbak, même si on ne peut pas avoir sur le 2008 une planche de bord garnie de cuir. L’équipement de série est complet sur cette version et comprend la plupart des aides à la conduite modernes : enfin ! A l’arrière, la hausse de dimensions profite bien aux passagers qui gagnent 3 cm en espace aux jambes par rapport à la génération précédente : pas mal, mais cela reste moins bien que le Captur qui profite de sa banquette coulissante. Pour le coffre, on est déçu par la toute petite hausse de contenance annoncée par Peugeot : seulement 10 dm3 de plus d’une génération à l’autre. Au volant de ce 2008 de 155 ch 3 cylindres essence, mauvaise nouvelle pour commencer : on entend trop le 3 cylindres, en tout cas en phase d’accélération car à l’inverse, une fois à vitesse stabilisée sur autoroute où on aurait pu craindre les bruits aérodynamiques, l’insonorisation est réussie. Ce moteur affiche 240 Nm de couple et produit des accélérations largement suffisantes car la voiture n’est pas lourde, mais ce n’est pas sportif ni spectaculaire, et la version 130 ch devrait être suffisante car il y a à peine moins de couple (230 Nm). Pour la partie châssis, on rappelle que ce 2008 utilise la même plateforme que le DS3 Crossback et 208 et le DS3 Crossback nous avait beaucoup plu en termes de compromis châssis. On retrouve à peu près la même chose ici, malgré la différence évidente : le petit volant qui donne d’emblée cette sensation d’agilité. Pas besoin de bouger beaucoup le volant pour que la voiture tourne rapidement, d’autant plus que le train avant est assez mordant, précis, et qu’on ne prend pas beaucoup de roulis. Le petit bémol vient du confort un peu ferme à basse vitesse mais dès qu’on va un peu plus vite, sur route par exemple, ça va beaucoup mieux et le compromis devient excellent. Bref, ce nouveau 2008 est tout à fait réussi pour la partie châssis, et, en la matière, un vrai Peugeot.

Porsche has unveiled an updated version of its class-leading sports car, but this is no ordinary facelift. For the first time ever, the 911 has gone hybrid! So apart from the changes under the skin, let’s see what else has been updated. Thankfully, not too much! Around the front, you’ll find a new set of LED matrix headlights, as well as an updated front bumper. Within it, you’ll find 5 vertical fins on each side, and these can open and close depending on whether the radiator needs cooling. There are new alloy wheel designs to choose from, and around the rear, you’ll find a tweaked light bar, as well as new vents behind the windscreen and a new rear bumper. Step inside and there’s one notable change - the analogue rev counter has gone, with a fully digital driver display fitted instead. It looks pretty smart and comes with lots of different options, but it’s just not the same as a traditional rev counter! Otherwise, the interior is every bit as smart as you’d expect from a 911, with soft-touch materials throughout and a large infotainment screen on the dash. When it comes to performance, only the new GTS comes as a hybrid. It’s now powered by a 3.6-litre flat-six with a single turbo, and this combines with the electric motor to produce 541hp and 610Nm of torque - that’s 61hp more than the previous GTS! Porsche claims it will be able to hit 60mph in just 3 seconds, and it also comes with a top speed of 194mph. The new 911 range starts from £99,800. But if you’re looking to get your hands on the GTS, it will set you back at least £132,600! The question is, if you could, would you pay it? Mat’s got his hands on this glorious Porsche and he’s about to find out if it’s the ultimate car on sale from Porsche’s GT division! So for starters, let’s take a look at how this car differs from the standard Boxster that it’s based on. Up top it comes with a more aggressive bumper, a big front splitter and a carbon fibre bonnet. The car we have here also has the Weissach pack fitted to it, so it comes with loads of exposed carbon across the car. Head around to the back and you’ll find the traditional Porsche GT exhaust layout, as well as a fixed ducktail spoiler. Let’s face it, it looks fantastic! Head inside and you’ll find a pair of carbon fibre bucket seats, some fabric door handles, and Alcantara on the steering wheel and gear stick. The centre console and dash design is traditional Porsche, however the Weissach pack brings a few more differences to the standard car, including more exposed carbon throughout the cabin and Alcantara across the upper dash. The Spyder RS is powered by the same glorious motorsport-derived 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six as you’ll find in the GT4 RS, 911 GT3 & GT3 RS. It sounds absolutely incredible, and it puts down 500hp and 450Nm. This power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed PDK automatic gearbox. It’s absolutely epic!! The car starts from £123,000, although the version we have here, with the Weissach pack and a few other additions, will set you back around £138,000. So what do you think - is it worth it? And is it the best car from Porsche’s GT division? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!
